WiiM Pro Plus - Review & Measurements (Streamer)

Im still waiting for the sound quality reviews of the WiiM pro +.

For now, we have excellent measurements provided by vintageflanker but almost noone has commented about how the sound is - except Cheapaudioman on youtube. Those of you having the pro + , are you happy with the soundquality from the analog output ? Can you compare it to streamers costing 1000 dollars ?
not me

Apart from the oldest CVE, I don't consider this a particularly big deal; it's not like you'll have these devices routable to the internet anyway.
To avoid such of thing, i set a segregated vlan network for iOTs. As soon as i receive my Wiim Pro+, he will go straight into that vlan :p (just send back an Eversolo which annoyed me a lot, and i did not ear any differences with my Octavio Stream).

I guess that any source with a SINAD better than -110 dB (and all the other relevant instrumental measurements in the same ballpark) sounds the same. Actually they shouldn't sound at all but be completely transparent.
a "sinad at 110db".. doesn't mean much... this is a specific case here showing the impact of such shortcuts.. observe what happens below 1khz and this "famous sinad at 1khz"..

I guess a lot people already have a dac, and usb output should be the standard, notwithstanding that if one is targeting owners of old amps then spdif is more ubiquitous. But I take the point, although once one has built a case and hardware to run the os adding a dac is probably not much of the bom.

A review of WiiM Pro states: "When EQ is set On, it widely affects performance:
Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (SINAD) - 24b/44.1kHz
Obviously, you do not want to use EQ at fixed volume, unless 57dB SINAD (before D/A conversion) is something you are looking for... It becomes way cleaner with volume is unlocked, the lowered at about 95%. This issue could be easily fixed by firmware, by setting max volume about 1dBFS down."

WiiM Pro Plus - the same problem with EQ on?

Is the coax digital output inactive when the unit is turned off?

Why is there a power button in the remote then if it can't be turned off? Standby should power off digital outputs if it would have been implemented correctly.

Putting the device into standby mode is not the same thing as turning it off. Your question was about the standby?

On the app page https://wiimhome.com/app there are two additions (new to me). They are beta versions for Windows and Mac OS. I don't have my Pro Plus yet, it should arrive any day now, so I decided to download the Windows version and try to get familiar with it. For some reason Windows will not let me open it quoting "unknown (or unrecognized, don't remember) author and potential security threats". I tried running it as an administrator but did not have any luck. Hopefully it will become available soon because my eyes are not very comfortable with a tiny phone screen.
Few days ago a number of vulnerabilities were mentioned in the post 202 of this thread. More or less I did not understand a thing and I can't understand how serious the vulnerabilities are. I also read somewhere on the Wiim web page how committed they are to security of their users and they invite people to report any security issues they may have noticed. The simple question is, actually two, do I really need to worry about the security of my entire Windows PC based system and are the issues mentioned being addressed by Linkplay?

Frankly, I’d park any idea of using their beta Windows or Mac app not from the point of view of security (which I think is primarily down to them not using the Microsoft app store) but from the point of view of them lacking a host of features available in their iOS or Android WiiM Home apps. The desktop betas have been available for a good while and haven’t progressed much if at all. You’d be better off getting an iOS or android phone or tablet to use your WiiM device.

What those warnings mean is that Wiim have not obtained a signing certificate and have not signed their software using Microsoft Authenticode.

Depending on how windows is configured it will either give you large scary warnings about such software or not run it at all.

Thank you @VintageFlanker , I just ordered one unit WiiM Pro, no a replacement my CXN V2, as a back up streamer, if it runs and functional well, promoted as primary streamer :p Thanks again for the measurement and thanks all for your sharing as I am learning from this forum a lot.
Can you write a little how it compares with Cambridge CXN V2 , soundvice ? Is it better ? Its VERY quiet from all the main youtube reviewers about the + version , except cheapaudioman that didnt think the bass was quite as good as the cheaper WiiM pro with SMSL su1 as dac.
