Wiim Mini with SMSL SU-1 vs Pro Plus?

I did look for this discussion but couldn't find the answer, thought I'd sign up as I'm very much down a rabbit hole.

I just had a WiiM Mini delivered on the plans to get an external DAC...but I've since started to sonder if I should have just got the WiiM Pro Plus? I can still send the mini back. So...the choice is; Mini with an SMSL SU-1 Dac (or similar), or a little more cash on the Pro Plus? Keeping it all in on box.

Would the external dac be a better? or is the final sound not much different.

No difference in sound quality, but the Pro Plus supports more PEQ bands and is a tidier setup.

Thank you, My only issue is that its pretty boring looking! haha Wish it looked more like the ultra but with no screen, but I'm sure I'll get over that.

I have the mini paired with dac, as you say neither mini nor pro is much to look at. Mine is hidden away and I use a tablet with stand to control the Wiim. Nice 9"screen operated from a comfy chair is better function than a small screen sat across the room imo. Especially if you already have a tablet as I did, so zero cost.

I love how concealable the Mini is. I stuck mine to the side of my amp that's out of view. Also powered by the amp's USB so it's nicely self contained.

Yes that is the advantage of the small size. If I use the usb on my amp to power something the sound is sent from I get a ground loop hum? Do you not have that issue?

No ground loop or hum on my Yamaha A-S301. Though I have to be wary of the Pure Direct button on my remote as it will cut the USB power. Are you using the optical output?

I have Pro Plus but still using SMSL SU-1 as external DAC. Better sound quality to my ears.
