Plan to put this on the JDS Atom stack coming tomorrow for my bedroom. Got an old Schiit Magni/Modi stack too I might try with it too.
Enjoy!

I plan to use this with my headphone amp and DAC. I will pretty much only use Spotify for this set up and want PEQ. That is why I'm going this route. Since I'll be using toslink out only is there any reason to get a Pro,Plus, or Ultra? I can't think of any.
The Mini does not do Google Cast, apart from that it's bit perfect/gapless over TOSLINK.

The mini has the best bang for the buck. The Pro is the least favourable option and may be good for those who need two SPDIF outputs (or a coaxial one). If one needs analog outputs or inputs the Pro Plus is the better option.

The answer by @jareinertson is the right one, unless:
  • You want to have ethernet input — either now or in the future, including option of using a Wi-Fi bridge in case you ever need improved reception.
  • You prefer the form factor of the Pro line.
Like you, I only use digital out. However, I've gone with the Pro (but not the Plus) because of the form factor and ethernet input.

Sorry, but I am not sure why you say "least favorable"... especially when you then go on to mention a few (not not all) of the benefits of the Pro over the Mini.

Ok, there is another benefit of the Pro I forgot - one can use the optical input to use the PEQ or the room correction for a CD/DVD/BD player. So the Pro has its place in the Wiim line-up.

This is only going to be for a bedroom headphones set up. So I don't think I need all of that.
I assume the Wiim Mini digital out to a headphone amp? Yes, that would bring up the best the headphone amp and headphones of your choice
are able to do together. Nothing "lost in translation". Great!

Pro also has Chromecast which Mini doesn't and Mini's won't play highest resoltion Amazpn Music when used in Multiroom situations but the Pro does .... not sure how that translates with othr streaming providers

If you already have a dac you really like, for me it's my RME ADI2 DAC FS, then the Pro is the best option for me. Used on ebay for $100 to $120 vs. $80 used for mini. Especially for use in different setups like bedroom, office, and main setups. Then the mini can be a pita. On a one setup basis the mini is just fine. Pro plus gives me nothing I don't already have as I already had DACs in use in each of my systems.

Mini doesn't have native Squeezlite/LMS either.

Shows up as a player for me (using the UPnP/DLNA Bridge plug-in) and works fine (at 320k for Spotify) for now.

That's the proper workaround. :)

Some people claim to have problems with the upnpbridge plugin while others report it working flawlessly. I don't know, I don't use LMS.

(But personally I think that those who say it works are usually smart people ... ;))

Mini is an incredibly versatile device. If all you need is a network bridge with all the features, there is no need for anything else. If you don't have a DAC, then you need to look elsewhere.

For many setups, an 89dB SINAD is quite sufficient, IMO. We're just used to much higher numbers these days, but let's not forget the big picture...

Absolutely. The Mini is not transparent within the range and limits of human audibility, so theoretically you will be able to hear deficiencies.

But whether you'll hear them for most material in real world usage? Different story.

Still, a transparent DAC can be had for £75 (UKGP), so buy a Mini and add a DAC later if you can't afford one just yet.

I am having a very weird issue with my Wiim Mini....

I am listening to this in Spotify...
wiim0.jpg

i stop the song in the Spotify app.

Suddenly this starts playing...
wiim1.jpg

i think it's grabbing it out of my media server... which it shouldn't have access to. and i have never played that song through the Wiim Mini - which is 100% dedicated to Spotify duty.
It does see my media library even though I didn't give it permission to scan my network...

Any thories? I have to stop the song manually or via the Wiim app.
