Wiim announce WiiM Amp Ultra

No. The WiiM Ultra and Amp definitely support both mass storage and USB DACs.

I don't see why this would change for the Amp Ultra.

Interesting, have you got Wiim Ultra or Wiim Amp to confirm with a quick test?
Their documentation does not say it supports USB DAC input, it only shows storage or USB Audio out to a DAC.

I don't understand. A DAC cannot physically output audio via USB. No matter to which device.

If it could, it would no longer be a DAC.

Edit:
Just re-read your original post and yeah, I misunderstood sorry.

The WiiM Amp/Ultra support USB Audio output to an external DAC, but cannot themselves act as USB DACs.

I doubt this will change for the Amp Ultra.

The term "chifi" isn't allowed here. I've only seen one person who has a problem with it, but he's the guy who owns the site so the polite thing to do is obey the rules. Use something less contentious; "cheap and/or low quality Chinese audio hardware" for example.
...he's not the only one who objects.

I had to return my Wiim because of this only, Wiim app on Windows had so many issues and Wiim support confirmed me when I checked with them. Their focus wasn't for Windows products at that time (and perhaps it's still same), and lack of USB DAC feature was show stopper for me.
Anyways, it is what it is.

Looks like that got pulled? I get a 403.
Nah, Darko has blocked direct links from ASR as pointed out above. Copy the link and paste it in a new browser tab and it works just fine. Or just don't patronize Darko's site, since he's obviously an extremely petty person.

One of the main audio quality advantages of the Amp Ultra vs the WiiM Amp Pro seems to be 100watts at 8 ohms vs ~60watts? Should we expect to see improved SNR and improved treble distortion in the new Ultra AMP (not that the Amp Pro looked bad?) I was planning to buy the Amp Pro for 4 zones in my house where I'm driving 8 inch B+W in-ceiling speakers with sensitivity of 89 db, and the rooms are not that large- about 12 x 15 x 8 ft. The amps sit in a central rack in the basement and I control only via an app so the screen isn't useful for me. And in two of the rooms I am using a powered subwoofer as well which helps offload the amp. I am guessing the Amp Pro is probably plenty for this scenario and the incremental value of the ultra would be negligible- does that sound right? (I know it's hard to be completely sure without measurements but the AMP Ultra seems to be predictable in this regard based on the Ultra and Vibe tests.)

@ZinMe I would say the Ultra will provide no real advantage for your setup and the Amp Pro will work very well.

Wiim amp ultra

Looks like wiim have announced the obvious next stage in their extensive lineup, a streamer/amp combo. Just one high performing device sounds good to me, though some of you may require higher power. I certainly don't in my small lounge. Amazed they've essentially merged an ultra, and an amp into the same dimensions. Hope it has vents.

I appreciate that picture is arguably a staged one, but a AT3600L set in a solid-plinth deck plonked on a resonant shelving unit and a KEF LS50? also plonked on there for visual effect... Sorry folks, the remaining dealer in me goes mad when I see setups like this, even if they are merely for show...

Wiim seems to be available via dealers in the UK, unlike the other favourites around this price, so I with this new little box all the very best and hope its performance is good too :)

I can’t wait for this to review with terrific data and then watch the internet proclaim how it sounds thin and lacking instrumental separation, etc, etc compared to ANYTHING more expensive.

There won't be any resonances, as there won't be any unsightly cables used.

Wiim also announced an active sub.

3 announcements from Wiim today.

Nice specs for such a small device. Looks good.

I would love to have a 10-band parametric EQ on my ampliifer, much better then Dirac.
