Wiim announce WiiM Amp Ultra

Arylic LP10 looks like a great way to add lossless AirPlay 2 to Wiim products missing that, via its TOSlink or analog output

although a fair bit of duplicated features, e.g. LAN or WiFi streaming from NAS, USB stick, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect directly

web control don't need the app

it isn't expensive, maybe iFruit aficionados just carry it to use wherever needed?

It is my understanding one can use a WiiM Mini to add support for AirPlay 2 to a WiiM device that does not support AirPlay 2.

As I understand it, one can physically connect a WiiM Mini to the other WiiM device, or use the WiiM Home App to 'group' playback of the Mini with the other WiiM device.

good to know, looks like a few Wiim's do this I didn't know about

WiiM devices that support AirPlay 2 are currently selling for 20 to 28 percent off list price at Amazon (USA). Support for AirPlay 2 can be added back to a WiiM ecosystem with a WiiM Mini for $71.20

compare Wiim Mini to LP10:

both have AirPlay 2

LP10 has Chromecast audio

both support AUX in & out, S/PDIF (optical no coax) output

LP10 accepts S/PDIF (optical) input

both have remotes

Mini has EQ and Roomfit, more RAM faster CPU,

LP10 has a display and USB-A

LP10 has Bluetooth 5.2, Mini is Bluetooth 5.0

I am not familiar with the Arylic LP10. Does it provide provide the option of applying Parametric EQ and room correction like the WiiM Mini ?

No. While Arylic and WiiM have a common pedigree thru Linkplay (the former use Linkplay SoC modules while the latter also do as Linkplay’s in house brand), they don’t share the same level of firmware and features. From a quick glance, Arylic’s feature set pales in comparison to a WiiM Mini.

Did you use AI to generate that list, it's full of inaccuracies.

No, please LMK be happy to correct
Mini does Bluetooth.

A lot of what's missing from the mini is fixed with the pro, for not much more. I suggested the mini originaly because you were talking about adding airplay to a bigger Wiim product, so it's limitations are not relevant.

(The list looked worse when I first read it, not sure if it's the edit or me being half asleep)

Updated the comparison.

Yes, sticking to Mini as they are similar price, idea is still "add Airplay to the Ultra" maybe some feature closes the deal OWOTO

Obviously keeping within Wiim ecosystem is inherently attractive for some

The Wiim devices can also connect wirelessly to each other, so adding airplay does not need to use a physical input.

I wonder if the Arylic and Wiim devices can connect using one of the audio-over-WiFi protocols?

How do clients receive that way from such devices, in a non-proprietary way if one is avoiding BT ?

Yes, Arylic streamers are discovered in Wiim app and vice-versa with 4Stream app.

Excellent, thanks! Any links explaining details on whatever WiFi-specific protocols are involved there (both directions) and in listening via Android clients, would be appreciated...

Basically Arylic and Wiim both use same base platform and discovery works simply using UPnP, you will notice most similarities between both the apps.
After completing basic setup and wifi connection, Wiim Home will discover both Wiim and Arylic devices and then you can do whatever you like. You can pair them in Primary/Master + slave for multichannel setup or use for multi-room streaming over WiFi.

WOW that's a LOT more than I expected!
I'm trying to increase my technical knowledge, not just about these specific devices

Is this greater compatibility due to anything proprietary to LinkPlay based stuff? or just generic PnP?

Sorry to hijack this thread, maybe better to continue any "Arylic +Wiim integration" discussion here?
