Spotted in the wild, a.k.a. my rack. The RME and Nord (on shelf below) are patiently waiting to get back in the game once the Ultras are transferred to my daughters apartment.

I wonder if the lawyers are chatting about the IOM Ultra?

They are probably smiling seeing no vents anywhere at this case.
Would poor reliability for the amp harm Wiim’s reputation if some people thought the two companies were partnered?

I liked the idea of this, but aesthetically (for me) the WiiM should sit on top of the IOM ... which is not sensible thermally.

Perhaps form over function, I think I'm over this now :)

A couple of slightly annoying things have popped up. Firstly, the IOM must be turned on by the trigger cable - there is no on/off switch. Ideally there should have been the ability to do this manually in order for the amp to be useful with non-trigger DAC/preamps. Secondly, there is a marked hiss/buzz from the speakers (94db sensitivity according to company specs) compared to my standard setup (RME/NCx500 with balanced connection). Admittedly this is only noticeable within 30-40cm or so from the speaker elements, but it is nevertheless annoying. Maybe I am oversensitive to this. Am chalking it down to having to use RCA between the Ultras.

Well I was pretty taken back by the €100 shipping charge for one device from Netherlands to Ireland. Frankly that's ridiculous. I had no intention of purchasing it anyway.

That's outrageous. Only EUR 30 to Norway, though.

You are not the only one reporting hiss / buzz with the WIIM Ultra. I´ve read that now several times and I´m also affected much more than with my other equipment. Somehow the Wiim has some issues here.

Good to know that I am not imagining things. In any case the Wiim/IOM-combo is more than good enough as a starting system for my daughter. Does make me wish for an RME ADI-version with Roon endpoint capabilities, though.

My IOM Ultra is shipping today...to AZ. Looking forward to trying it out and hoping not to hear any "noise." For those that have, have you reached out to Spiko to see what he has to say? Thanks!

I can give a try with the RME instead of the Wiim this weekend and see (hear) if there is a difference.

I don’t get what’s this about a hum. Not having this problem with my setup, although my speakers aren’t nearly as sensitive (KEF LS50 Meta). I’ve tried both, XLR and RCA inputs without a hum issue. I do have the WiiM on top of the IOM. They only get lukewarm.

Edit I now see people are saying the hum is not noticeable beyond 30-40cm. I will check later tonight, but I definitely don’t hear it from my normal listening position 10 feet away.

Just checked. Zero hum with my LS50 Metas, even with my ear right up in the driver. However, I am using an external DAC and I’m using XLR input on my IOM Ultra (I got mine made with both, RCA and XLR inputs). I’m wondering if you’re getting it coming from upstream somehow. Are those of you getting a hum using an external DAC? Maybe it’s the RCA implementation.

Why is it that much to Ireland? That’s closer than America and I paid 65€ to get it shipped to New Jersey.

Would you mind testing the amp’s unbalanced inputs from your Ultra’s analogue output?
