I need some advice, is it possible to run a WiiM Amp Pro with a Bose 901 iv system?
A friend bought the Bose system and had a Wiim Amp, and we are both trying to figure out how to hook it up.
The Bose was going into a store to play back ground music. We where looking at the cheapest solution, preferably a integrated map/steamer. What inputs/outputs do i need? 1 rca in and 1 rca out? would it matter if its a phone, aux ect.. ?
I’m not certain whether or not that will work, but something else to consider. If I’m not mistaken the eq for those speakers is pretty extreme because the speakers in their own are a mess. Extreme eq would be very taxing on an amplifier and the little WIIM (while an awesome product) may not be up to the task.
If you want decent streaming, something like this will work: Wiim Pro or Pro Plus -> Bose EQ -> power amp of your choice. Use the amplifier in put and output - Wiim Pro to input, output to amplifier.
The Bose EQ was designed for something with a "Tape Monitor" (or equivalent) loop. You could hunt resale stores for an old receiver or integrated amp with a Tape Monitor function (and associated issues that are endemic to old electronics...), or just go with the layout I mentioned.
And check those speakers; depending on age, odds are the surrounds are shot and they will need re-foaming.
An afternoon. It wasn’t my first refoaming project, but it was the easiest. The small size of the cones makes centering not a problem.
My wife used the Series IV for background music in her sewing room. I replaced the Bose eq with a minIDSP from Deer Creek. The amp is a low end Fosi. It’s not stressed for background levels.
I have three 901s. Two from garage sales. I plan to get WIIM ams for them and program the DSPs for the Bose curves, they’re pretty simple. They will go to my children or to friends. They ooze retro cachet. And don’t sound bad at all.
