Ok, too bad. I’m fighting between something like that in 2.0 setup or AVR in 3.0. Lets hope something comes up in the near future.
Have you seen this on the Ultra roadmap?

Might be coming to the Amp Pro as well, since both support DD decoding.
Though it's not on the Amp Pro roadmap yet.

Interesting and very impressed, they actually post their roadmap like this. I hope they create a 3.0/3.1 version as well of their product. I really don’t want wireless. Thank you for the link.

A question: will they ever get support for airplay?

Not on the Amp Pro and Ultra - those simply lack the required hardware.

Airplay support might be returning on a future product though.

Hello everyone. Please tell me, Is it worth changing my SMSL AO 300 to Wiim Amp Pro? Or add to AO 300 Wiim Ultra ?

Is it worth changing my SMSL AO 300 to Wiim Amp Pro?
Yes, if you make use of the WiiM's features like built-in sub integration and room correction, Dolby Digital decoding, streaming input etc.

If you plan to use the WiiM like you would your AO300, so as just a basic DAC+Amp, then no not worth it.

Yes, but is it all there in Wiim Ultra? If I want to replace the amp, Amp Pro won't be able to be a streamer!

4mm2 is Maximum you can use. Bigger cables will not fit the terminals. Much better useable are bananas, because the place for the cables is not overwhelming.
Yes, bananas are a good idea. I found Dynavox bananas with a max cable diameter of 6 mm and a plug diameter of 11mm : is it compatible with Amp Pro terminal ?

11mm Plug diameter will work well. But for what will you use such massive cables? 4mm2 is more than enough too
Yes, 4mm² is enough and it's the diameter I use today with my loudspeakers; But I've project to hide wires behind a wall, so I would like to plan the max.
Probably I will follow your advise and reuse my 4mm² cables.

ah...wait a minute...I thought their products had AirPlay, but looking at their pages it seems NOT?!? While my kid does have a Spotify account I could use, I have iPhone and MacBook and use Apple Music because I can upload my own stuff.

So WiiM are a nonstarter for me? Or how could I use Apple Music? (I had a bunch of old AirPort Express but none of them would sync to my laptops, so I'm not super keen to go down that rabbit hole again).

Wait...https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support/solutions/folders/72000563301
says they all support AirPlay 2 except the Amp Pro and Ultra (an extremely peculiar design and marketing choice!). That's echoed in this chart
https://www.wiimhome.com/wiimamp/overview
But then here on their product pages I do not see any AirPlay logo, making me paranoid/skeptical.

I guess the WiiM Amp is the logical choice for me...or Amp Pro fed from a Mini via optic, seems a bit odd.

???

BONUS QUESTION: are there any streamers that are configurable as AirPlay (original) thus truly running lossless?

I believe WiiM got in trouble by enabling AirPlay without installing Apple's licensing/ID chips somehow.

At first they were probably small/unknown enough to slip through the cracks.

First sign of trouble was when they had to patch AirPlay Cast support out of the Pro and Pro Plus.

And I guess from then on, Apple was clear that they would not tolerate AirPlay support of any kind in new products without WiiM following the rules.

The Amp/Amp Pro/Ultra designs were likely finalized at that point and did not include Apple's chip, so supporting AirPlay was an impossibility.

AirPlay RX on the Mini and Pro surprisingly got spared.

Whether AirPlay will return to future WiiM products, we'll just have to wait and see.

WiiM have been extremely light on details regarding this situation, likely to avoid legal troubles, so the above is purely my guess of what makes the most sense.
