Compared to this video, what to believe?

I'm kinda more inclined to believe the chap that is using a multimeter because that is showing real time voltage values, surely those power amps are just showing the power usage which would make sense for a power amp of that size, a massive power amp is going to consume a lot of power, if you had a 50w power amp with a wattage metre slapped on the front it would scale accordingly.
In that amp in the Harbeth video, it is showing apparent power over a synth pedal tone that is right at the phase minimum of the speaker. Further discussion here:

Tldr, I think it’s misleading.

If you are just doing a stereo setup and don't need the video inputs/output of the AVR, don't see any reason not to get the Wiim.
The wiim amp seems to not work (according to their forums) via HDMI arc with my TV, the Lg B4. I'm also considering adding a center at some point. But I'm 80-20 music to movies. So I would want to go the avr route if there was an audible drop in quality

According to my reading of the issues with HDMI ARC, it seems like the issue had to do with (inadvertently) sending encoded audio. As long as the TV and any other sources are sending their audio as stereo PCM, it should work fine.

But if you have any inclination to possibly expand beyond two channels, then going with an AVR would probably be wise.

Debating between this and a budget avr (Denon S760H or X1700H).

Would there be audible differences when powering efficient speakers (8ohm 96db)?
I had the 760H for several years. I bought it from Costco, and at the suggestion of Denon tech support, was able to take it back to Costco and swap it for another unit. It drove me crazy! Frequently going into protected mode. I lost count of how many resets and other efforts to get it to stop doing this. Yes, when it worked, it was okay - many connection options (automatically selected according to which input you select) - sounded good. I found Denon tech support of no help to me. Seemed like what I was hearing from them was send it in (at your expense) and we'll take a look and ship it back to you (at your expense). I looked at forum remarks and many reviews. I found that what I was experiencing did not seem a one-off. I finally junked it and got the WiiM Amp Pro about a month ago. I am MUCH happier.

They should have provided either a headphone jack or at least a preout.
I have the idea that one can use the USB port (with a USB to 1/4" adapter cable) to feed headphones? curious: what USB type is this? (2.0, or what?)

The USB ports on the Wiim devices are for an external drive generally and not output unless something has changed.

They also function for digital audio out, which is exactly what USB headphone adapters (portable DACs) do.

A preout or actual headphone jack would make more sense. Why bypass the good DAC in the Wiim unit?
I'm not disputing that part.

Well, WiiM doesn't disagree--they put a 3.5mm single-ended headphone out on the Wiim Ultra. Pay to play, my friend.

Are the “-“ speaker terminals true grounds or are the amps bridged? I’m looking to see how to Connect stereo subs to this amp. Any suggestions on a circuit design for this using the speaker level output?

Not a good idea to use speaker-level subwoofer connections on these class-D amps.

Why not, and is that limited to Class D chip amps or does it extend to Hypex et al?
I speak only for these TI/Infineon/etc. chip-based class-D amps; not sure how the discrete class-D amps like Hypex/ICEPower/Purifi would do. My dad attempted this with his Rel sub on Fosi V3 Mono and it was SO not happy.

Thanks for the reply - I have my Emotiva sub connected via speaker level from my Hypex NC252 (Buckeye) and have had zero issues.

What happened? Did something break or was it a noise / sound quality issues?

The amp after a few minutes goes into safety shutdown.
