WiiM Amp discussion

Just got my WiiM here in Germany.
Only problem no mattter what I do or what I change I cant get sound on my Bravia Sony H90. He recognizes an Arc input and then the test sound wont play and I just dont get anything. Any idea what it can be? Oh and optical out its the same.

Only Bluetooth works. :/
Check that you have your tv set to output PCM - that’s all the Amp will support.

Did you switch inputs both on the TV and the Wiim Amp? I didn’t do this the first time and was confused, too.
Yes, both the App its on HDMI and the Sony on Audiosystem. Got a Sony XH92 and a lot of people have trouble with ARC and sound output.

EDIT: IT WORKS! It was only so quiet that i cant hear anything, I had to adjust the PCM correction to max in the audio setting on the Sony. Great little device! :)

Heard back from Wiim yesterday. They apologised for the inconvenience and asked for my details to replace the unit.
Thanks, how did you get in touch with the wiim support regarding the replacement? My unit will arrive tomorrow, also from the German audio trade page. I guess it will be the same charge. Let's see

You get in touch with their support in the Wiim Home App in the FAQ section. Pretty straightforward.

I've tested a lot of stereo DAC/amp products with HDMI ARC and besides the coil whine and per input source volume issues (both of which are being fixed), the WiiM Amp is by far the absolute best I've tested. Everything else I've tested is super buggy with HDMI ARC and either has bad audio artifacts (clicking, popping, clipping), or weird issues like the HDMI ARC input randomly dying after a few hours. I haven't had any such issues with my WiiM Amp.

For those considering the Sonos Amp 2: I bought one very recently, and I already experienced a sudden drop of the HDMI ARC connection. As I couldn't get it fixed straight away, I left a Amp unplugged for a couple of days while I was away, and now it works again. But having a reliable ARC connection is worth something, especially with the wife and kid wanting to just watch TV (and already wondering why I upgraded the system in the first place).

Mine arrives tomorrow (UK). Will report back.

It's shocking just how many devices with HDMI ARC are barely functional. It feels like an afterthought. I've been using the WiiM Amp extensively over HDMI ARC for the past week and it's thankfully still working beautifully.

Same, I occasionally get audio drop outs, but not sure if it's due to the Amp, my monitor or GPU.

Have any of the new owners used the USB drive to host a library and play through other endpoints (ie, playback other than the Amp itself)?

I'm trying to understand the capabilities/limitations of the Wiim Amp for "distributing" a library of music on a USB drive to other audio endpoints in my house. Wiim documentation isn't much help: I was rather shocked, after reading the entire Wiim Amp user's manual, to discover that there is literally no mention of external USB drives. None. The USB connector is identified in the rear panel photo, but other than that USB isn't mentioned anywhere. Isn't listed in the input/output control lists, or the specs, or anywhere else.

Basically I'd like avoid setting up a separate DLNA server, and instead leverage the Amp (w/ its USB drive) as a way to distribute my FLAC collection to other audio endpoints in the home.

I perceive the Amp can broadcast over Wiim or Airplay, but despite my hopes/wishes, it can only receive Chromecast. So no way for the Amp to play files from any of its sources (RCA, optical, streaming/wifi, OR the USB drive) to a Chromecast Audio endpoint, for example. Correct me if I'm wrong. The manual seems to confirm that the Amp can send local sources (via RCA, optical, ARC) to other Wiim or Airplay endpoints, but makes no mention of doing the same from the USB drive.

I'm hoping/assuming that local files on an external USB drive would enjoy the same support as the other sources, and this is just an oversight of an early rev of user manual, but would be good to confirm.

Well, it really is not extensive documentation. I guess you just have to try play the tracks from a thumb drive from other endpoints.

Yes. Surprised how well it is made, just the banana plugs where hard to fit in first.
Had the issue with almost every new device. but the amp was especially tight. I thought i bought the wrong plugs. I just squeeze the plugs a little bit with pliers and some cloth for protection.
