WiiM Amp discussion

Its really a pity that Wiim is saying nothing about this.
Even a "we are looking into this" would be good.
But complete silence is no good sign to bei honest.
Well it probably isnt an issue for 95% of people. If I didnt read about it, maybe I wouldnt have noticed it at all.

If anyone feels like cancelling, I'm happy to be the guinea pig assuming my order ever ships!

Noisy transformer, high distortion, or low sinad is not a fail product. It’s the Wiim Amp.

Idk how loud it is for sou but with my device you definitely would. Its as loud as my ThinkCentre HTPC‘ Fan. You notice it immediately when walking past
not loud at all, still makes me have a bad feeling. arent we all perfectionists?

Its simply money we spend for gear that used to last for decades in the past.
This issue already in the beginning of the life cycle gives me not really confidence that its the same with this product.

Just for clarification: My Loxjie A30 makes absolutely no noise at all. I have to hold my ear ON the powerbrick to hear any kind of electric noise. Same goes for 100$ SMSL devices.

I touched my device this morning again and it is unfortunately still very warm after a night in standby mode. It also uses between 8-9 watts of power in standby mode which is too much in my opinion. Especially if 5w of this consumption is going into heating the environment.

Something is indeed off with the temperature. Mine is not hot but warm. However, the Wiim Pro + Loxjie A30 combination is cold in comparison. Even when both devices are used to power the exact same speaker pair for 15 minutes. Same for the power brick

standby consumption is not the problem..but a symptom among others (somes of which are much more serious...) .....

My Fosi Audio V3 is exactly 8 watt when it’s on. Probably the maker forgot to shutdown the amp. Now, can the software instruct the TPA3255 to shutdown?

FYI:

I really hope that they are right :-D

I wonder what serial number is the cutoff for the first batch vs the second improved batch and if anyone here has a second batch unit and can share photos of the PCB. My guess is the fix was silicone hot snot on the problematic transformer.

Same, I am also curious how they solved the issue so fast. I will open the second batch unit as soon as I get it and report back here with pictures.

They haven’t said it’s the entire first batch just a “very small number of units from our first manufacturing batch”, so it might even be random and not any particular sequence of units.

As advised, if you have the problem, raise a ticket and it’ll hopefully be dealt with.
