I have to say I wish Wiim went , as someone else mentioned here with a hypex module at a higher price.
Basically a WiiM Pro Plus with a Topping PA5 amp.

YepInteresting. Do you have the noise in standby?
Then the noise is maybe not necessarily related to the standby heat.
Pretty sure its unrelated. Then the noise is maybe not necessarily related to the standby heat.
Yea, that’s true, but unfortunately with pa5 you don’t get a sub-out or hpf (+ that combo is more expensive than the wiim amp)Basically a WiiM Pro Plus with a Topping PA5 amp.

I’ve seen a few similar comments. Hopefully this can be improved via firmware. Could even be a speaker wrecker.HDMI ARC works fine, impressive how this relatively small box will replace my Onkyo TX-L50 AVR as I do not need 5.1 anymore. Unfortunately, the volume difference is huge. The Amp itself delivers a very high level of volume even on 2 dots on its scale. Another source like a TVs ARC delivery a more classic volume relative to the scale, so 1 dot is quiet, 2-3 normal, 4-5 loud. Unfortunately, the amp does not notice the extreme difference. That means that coming from a rather normal ARC volume of 3-4 back to Spotify Connect, Tidal, etc. you will get an extremely loud output. No idea how I can fix this but it should be possible.
They introduced a speaker max setting. Its not absolute but relative, meaning each volume step gets lowered by xy%. So you can prevent wrecking your speakers. But it does not help when one input source has significant higher volume than another one. Then, one is way too quiet and the other one is normalI’ve seen a few similar comments. You would have to cover the transformer in hot snot to reduce mechanical vibration.Wiim has said it is transformer noise. If so , I don’t think that can be fixed via software.
Maybe someone with technical expertise can chime in on this.
Show stopper #1From the AMP...If I get next to the amp's vents it is very loud.
There is nothing coming out of the speakers when no playing music.
? ;-)Btw just tested, mine is pretty warm to the touch in standby too. And while i tested it i also shocked the amp![]()
ESD shocked the amp. Since it was off, nothing happened though.? ;-)
I think ill wait till version 2 of the Wiim amp comes outESD shocked the amp. Since it was off, nothing happened though.
Seems my coil whine got a bit worse though, even in standby. Dont know if im very happy with this.
By the time my version 1 finally ships, I'm sure the version 2 will already be announced!I think ill wait till version 2 of the Wiim amp comes out
LOL .Maybe I guess building an amp aint as easy as putting a streamer together.By the time my version 1 finally ships, I'm sure the version 2 will already be announced!
Be the guinea pig for us! Lets us know if your unit is noisy or not.Damn it. Should I cancel my order?
