WiiM Amp discussion

Why the hell got the WIIM Amp HDMI ARC input but not their WIIM Pro?
I wish they offer a WIIM Pro II asap with HDMI.

Rumour is they are working on a 'ultra' version of the streamer. Hopefully with HDMI and a display. Would definitely buy that and donate my pro to my parents.
Interesting that a few people I’ve seen comment about the possible “ultra” Wiim streamer wanting a display.
I’d happily forgo a display as my phone/tablet/pc/Mac is the display. Why have a small one on the unit itself? It’s added cost id rather see out towards balanced outputs and even multiple sub outputs, or going further dual main outputs with options to drive mid and hf drivers in 2-way speakers actively. Plus of course every input we could possibly desire. And a mega technical performance, and Dirac, etc. :)

So many people so many flavours. I would personally like it to be a pure streamer. Just digital out. Why add a dac when you have one, it only adds to the cost ;).
I like a display because when I play playlists I want to see what's playing right now without having to take my phone out.
It is easy to add an external dac. It's much harder to add an external 'now playing' display...

We can tell Wiim what we both want, lol ;)

Probably in order to destroy Cambridge Audio EVO market. I'll be glad if the price is 10% of the evo.

I’ve sold my huge integrated amp and from the proceeds have gotten bookshelf speakers (Q Acoustic 3020i) and pre-ordered the Wiim Amp. I still hope to sell my big Quad S-5 floorstanders. Looking forward to having more space and less and smaller boxes in my living room.

In the meantime my old Denon DRA-F 107 is doing a fine job powering the Quads.

In Oz, the WiiM Amp is going to cost the same as the WXA-50?
We haven't seen the WiiM Amp in Australia yet but I suspect the price here will be very close to that of the WXA-50. The WXA-50 sells for about AUD$600 here. I expect the WiiM Amp to be similar once it hits our shores. So it's a genuine $ for $ comparison.

A few Australian shops are advertising it $495-$499 for February delivery.

Yep, you're right. I just did a Google myself. Better than I thought it might be. I understand the appeal of an all-in-one device. I bought a Wiim Pro for AU$180 and a Fosi V3 for AU$75 during the BF sales, so the combo is effectively half the price of the Wiim Amp at the sacrifice of some compactness/neatness but greater power.

Don't forget HDMI input and Bass Management/Crossover Options with the Sub out. Nice extra features.

We always want more; we’re never happy.

Especially me.

Wouldn’t it be nice if…

Amir’s review of the Pro Plus suggests a DAC up there with the great Topping DACs, and transparent to the source. Wouldn’t be great if WiiM could release an ‘Amp Plus’, with a Pro Plus standard front end, and a Topping PA5 II standard of amplification.

I know that some measurements have been posted at the WiiM forums, and linked to here. I in no way wish to disparage those.

But has any professional, established objectivist reviewer posted anything yet?

I’d love to see how the DAC stands up to other standalone DACs, as the Pro Plus’s clearly does from Amir’s review here, and how the amp section holds up compared to other, popular desktop amps, like the Toppings and Fosi Audio.

I’m surprised there have been none so far. I mean this item is the hottest potato in hi-fi-land at the moment, but all we have in the way of professional reviews is a bunch of subjectivist twaddle, as far as I’ve seen.

It’s the amp section I’m worried about
