Why was Industrial Lights and Magic needed for Akira Kurosawa's Dreams?

Perhaps it cost less or was faster to use new methods. Dreams is a really great movie although rather disturbing.

It costs more. I can never believe what movies cost these days. I mean Disney spends half a billion dollars on each Marvel film.

You're right. Well, the scenes were much more complicated, and have only gotten far more complicated in all the special effects-driven movies now. Just seems like those simpler techniques go a long way. and like they weren't even really trying that hard to make it perfect, because it's a lighthearted film.
