I am on the persono thread giving hate because the personis don't measure good

That didn't come out right but if you want an example just go to the active persona thread and read page 3. Now please explain to me why it's beneficial to go out of your way to tell someone that's already made their decision they're wrong? Then this person waves the measurements around. I'll say it, I think Revel makes decent ht kit but is awful at stereo and the ultima's were the worst soundstaging speakers i've ever owned and the bass was mia. That said I don't stalk the revel forum telling everybody my opinion.
Because they sucked in my room with my gear to my ears doesn't invalidate your impressions and if you guys like the stuff enjoy it.

What?

I agree that social skills and self control is something that can be strengthened through determination and/or life experience, but IMO you can't teach empathy. You either have it or you don't. A high-functioning psychopath don't give a rat's ass about anyone other than him/her self, but have just been taught not to give that impression. Moral, that has been rehearsed or is enforced through fear of repercussions, is noting but acting. It can give (temporary) stability, but never harmony.

World wide harmony is a bit like cold fusion. They both disregard some very fundamental truths about reality.

But I get what you're saing. Some people just want to see the world burn, but it shouldn't stop the rest of us from actively improving our manners :)

I've never read any Dostoevsky. Maybe I should. Just hope it won't inflate my ego :D

Really can't recommend him more. A friend of mine is a professor of psychology. When he gets students in fresh, he likes to get them to debate socialism Vs capitalism etc. Knowing the majority are pro socialism and it will get heated one way or the other. Then he gets them to read Dostoevsky or Solzhenitsyn over the weekend. When they come back, he asks them what they think.....most decide they need to rethink everything about the world they live in.

Hell of a teacher IMO.

Maybe audiophiles need a better education on human social studies?

A purely factual ABX test just doesn't have the same sexiness as a well-told fairytale.[/QUOTE]

I am purloining the above quotation!!

I think the problem is that there is a group dynamic where ever you go where there is a group. Free thinking is often discouraged and the group minions (the little gullible guys who trust everything the group says) are waiting to pounce like worker bees guarding the queen bee if an opinion is contrary to the group dynamic. You see this in some forums more than others but often it is the experienced newcomers who are better at noticing it. The inexperienced newcomers either get shown the door by the minions or assimilated into the dynamic. Sort of like the Thought Police in 1984. Those already assimilated have been conditioned not to believe it so they don't even see it. I guess the best way to combat the narrow mindedness and intolerance in these places is to expand ones horizons, get out, have new experiences and learn to accept alternative ideas.

People treat thier opinions like children instead of women. They'll do till a better one comes along.

And most people think they are more intelligent than they actually are.

This is not a hostile place. But you should be ready to discuss (your) (a) opinion. People that are not used to discuss opinions could maybe feel it's hostile.

My answer was commensurate with the op question. Indeed I consider it to be the most profound answer.

And most people think they are more intelligent than they actually are.

That's the paradox of intelligence. Those who have very little, think they have a lot. And those who have a lot, think very little of themselves.

You can't fight the normal distribution.

The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt. Even those of the intelligent who believe that they have a nostrum are too individualistic to combine with other intelligent men from whom they differ on minor points.
