Why does the audio industry like linear transformers so much over SMPS?

Didden's Silent Switcher is truly excellent, but more complex than a simple 78xx style linear Vreg for low power applications. Switchmode is best for high power settings where efficiency reigns supreme. For 78xx-sized applications, I'll still go with inexpensive integrated linear solutions and skip the radiated HF noise problem.
 
As for linear post regulation after a switcher, it's a mixed bag. Slow error amps in the regulators may not be able to follow the HF noise and correct it out, and the noise will ride right through them Yee-ha! style.
That's why you read the data sheets and choose parts that meet your requirements.
 
That is correct. And then validation must be done on any solution to be sure it really is meeting spec.
