Why do records sound so much better than digital?

I think you'd better do some basic study on how transducers work.

I have an understanding of how transducers work but I would rebutt with "I think you;d BETTER not assume that transducers work under ideal circumstances, without resonances and distortions."

Then please reference some papers on resonances of diamond styli. Seriously you can't expect us just to take your word for it. This is a science related forum not a music one.

Do we really know the psychoacoustic effects well enough, of phenomena like woofer pumping and barely audible subsonic frequencies (and supersonic) to simply write off subsonics cart blanche? There are people who think the low frequencies found in groove noise does contribute to the favourable response of some to the "vinyl sound". Not sure where I read that and if any experiments have actually been carried out to disprove this but it is an interesting thought.
Easy to test. Unplug your turntable from the phono preamp and listen for any sound coming from the cartridge.

I would then ask you to define "intelligence"? Matter does not have an intelligence, to you? Only the organization known as the human mind, has intelligence?

Agreed, about the pitfalls of chasing gear. But to not treat whatever tools you have, without the proper respect, seems like a form a arrogance.

Kenji "control is an illusion of the fearful" Fuse
woo... plain and simple.

The tip of the needle is a rock. That rock is dragged through a groove. That rock is as stupid as a rock. Attach it to one end of a cantilever and stick magnets on the other end of the cantilever and you've got an electric generator with very low output. That's amplified and sent to your speakers. There is nothing remotely "AI" about the process, it's a century old.

A needle tip is more intelligent than your run-of-the-mill rock! It possesses the almost-unsurpassable intelligence of a crystal!

The arrogance on this page is quite baffling and a bit disappointing. Here I thought there would be some overarching Enlightenment principles, but seems to be mostly myopic techno-obsession.

When did science become divorced from philosophy and monogamously married to measurements, exactly?

I am very curious what motivates the members here, as to why they put energy and time (and money?) into hifi gear? It doesn't seem like it is the opiate-release of "frisson", nor the nirvana of attaining some level of universal consciousness. There is a tribe-like attitude as well as a dogmatic "No, I know better!" stance.

A very strange circumstance....

I think you need to look within yourself to see the arrogance. You keep spouting the same drivel with no supporting evidence other than your word. News flash - nobody's word is worth squat here without some ability to back it up. You have proven unable or unwilling to back up your word in any way. That is the real arrogance here.

All cartridges are subject to tracing noise, turn your amp off and put your ear next the cart you'll hear a very feint version of what's on the record. Some stylus profiles are subject to greater tracing noise than others but they all do it from spherical to line contact.

While subsonics might affect playback they aren't recorded into the groove. Cutting head amps usually have a very steep 20hz cut off, usually a pair of cascaded sallen key 18db octave filters on them and digital source files have nothing below 20 hz anyway.

Any subsonic from a TT are from production imperfections or the products of arm cart resonances, ie pure distortions.

…
I view my tonearms as colleagues, analogous to me recording myself performing written music. In fact, I have learned more about my bow arm from working on tonearms in the past decade, than any viola guru or treatise.

I suppose a tonearm resembles a bow in shape, but then the conductor should p’rolly resemble Harry Potter, in this anthromorphic trend where a bow and rock great traits like intelligence.

We can simply measure with REW and discard all that.

Ah . . .

Just asking?

The arké of the world truly is fire. Some of those fires are indeed devine, but most are just vain. Yours is not fire, but just smoke, and so it cannot rise,, but fall.
