Why are threads closed without notice?

I could use the practice. Exercise!
We could all use the exercise. Sergeant Doge will see to it we become unstoppable! To a great soundtrack, be assured. Freejazz is verboten

We are the Rollatorwehrmacht :)

Yes, I use DeepL
But even DeepL has its limits when it comes to specialized technical terms, such as those used to describe the components of a compression driver for example
Claude is much better, especially if you set it with a system prompt to attend specifically to specialized terms and nuance/tone/connotation

One of the more challenging aspects of moderating ASR is finding the right balance between differing perspectives.

Most notably with threads where a member disagrees strongly with science or taking a more objective approach. In some cases, a thread may be closed or posts removed. However, some of these threads are kept around as potential examples of open debate to compare and contrast opposing views in audio.

Even a thread (such as this one) where we discuss differing perspectives over how ASR is managed/moderated, can benefit from wider exposure. While I have emphasized the benefit of privacy, it should be balanced by some level of public discussion as well. If I close this thread, it should be because it served its purpose or is no longer able to do so. Hopefully I strike a good balance most of the time. Most members will never know the full set of reasons that Amir or I have for any given action. It may not appear to be an optimal decision for a given member, but hopefully it is for most ASR members. :)

I have an HR question, does your year of service continue if you left the company and came back?

Congrats on the 10 years Rick!

No, did this for 10th Anniversary of ASR. I have only been a moderator for a little over a year and a member for about 6 years.

Wow ASR is younger than it feels.

this should be safe and fun place to relax after hard day's work.
I think this should be a place to learn about audio science, audio equipment, etc. This thread is in "Member Area," so I guess it's ok to be random chit-chat (I usually avoid this forum), but I do hope the random chitchat doesn't continue to spill out in every other part of the site. Nothing wrong with chit-chat, of course, but, well, signal-to-noise ratio & all that.

Thanks, but you reminded me that rather than closing a thread, there is often more value in it being in the right subforum. :)
