I retired at the end of the 2009 F1 season so travelling a lot is no longer necessary.
I also discovered, after retiring, that what I had always assumed was claustrophobia was just normal for a person with Asperger's.
The statistics show that about 1 in 20 of people in my age group that catch the virus die but apart from going to the market to buy fresh food every day I was almost self isolating by my normal lifestyle anyway.
My biggest sadness is seeing less of my delightful grandchildren who are the highlight of my life nowadays, and it looks like it will be months before it will be safe, and even then a small resurgence is statistically likely.
F1 is heavily effected since one can hardly have a World Championship sporting event with everyone working from home!

Hang in there Frank. Don't hesitate to reach out to someone (me included) if things get squirrley. Physical isolation is one thing. Social/psychological isolation is another.

Thanks. I am a bit of a loner and have been happily married for 46 years so just the two of us will be fine I expect, the grandchildren will be Facetime, which isn't the same but much better than anything that was available when our kids were young.

This rant is nonsense. The outbreak has nothing to do with the reprehensible regime. East Asia has been the source of many past epidemics, for basic ecological reasons.
Mind you, by your logic the last really major pandemic, the so called Spanish flu, should have been called the American flu, or the Kansas flu. So we had better stop this.

I now have the option to telework for 4 of my 5 workdays each week. I work in technology, so staying home and working on a 14" screen, just doesn't cut it for me. Fortunately, I live about 12 minutes away from where I work and at work, I'm direct wired into the network, have dual 22" monitors, a headset for my telephone, a standing desk, etc. So, until they tell me that telework is MANDATORY, I won't switch until that time comes. As it is, 90% of our work population in my main facility is teleworking, so the virus risk is very low and social distancing doesn't even come into the picture because it is so sparse at the moment. Now, would I love being home, listening to my 2-channel system with Hi-Def tunes? Yes, I would - but, then I might lose my focus on my work a little. Be well, all!

We're self-isolating here in Northern California as per the local authorities. Fortunately, my wife and I already work from home, so there's no major adjustment there. Our biggest worries are around our parents who are 96, 91, and 75. We have them as isolated as possible and are hoping for the best. Stay safe everyone, and best of luck in these difficult times. Here's my humble workspace...

I'll be at home tomorrow (friday), but not working, because of the flu and distancing of my elderly dental patients. 4 days/week until Easter, and perhaps 2-3 after that? May is expected to be the most difficult month here. This morning I had migrene and was a bit worried, but so far only my youngest daughter has been ill (not tested).

My oldest daughter's wedding in June 6th is postponed to August, in London UK. Unless...

It was just announced that Netflix are indeed reducing their bitrate in Europe to free up bandwidth: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-51968302 It does not seem necessary here in the Netherlands (I don't really know), since we are happily enjoying a very good internet infrastructure. But elsewhere in Europe this may indeed be very useful, given Netflix' enormous demand on the system.

Just out of curiosity, why would you run your ide remotely like that? Is it a security thing, or do you have to run it on giant boxes or something? I just ask because I haven’t done it that way in a long time and I’m curious whenever I meet someone who works in a totally different style than me.
Well, I have a new linux workstation in the office which is my only official PC. I also have a small windows notebook for workers council work which must not be used for normal work - and it's probably to weak anyway. Nevertheless this notebook is able to enter the VPN (it's setup by the IT department) and the only way to work on my linux workstation (at least the only one I have found) is to run mobaxterm as X-terminal.

I do have a private linux workstation at home as well but I haven't found a way to enter the VPN. If this would be possible I could mount the disk of the PC in the office and run eclipse locally at home. OTOH I'm quite sure that this is not allowed as the private PC is not controlled by our IT and only IT controlled PC are allowed to connect to the company intranet.

I guess i'm lucky to have a souped up laptop running xubuntu for work and not having to use our vpn for really anything day to day (as long as I can get to github and GCS I'm ok).

Maybe if the working from home thing goes on long enough your IT group will have to provide a better means of doing so.

We've been taking measures and preparing since Jan
”WFH” the initial a week or two after CNY.

then pretty much everyone get back to work in early Feb, except the govt offices, public facilities and schools

banks were closed a little longer
everyone’s careful enough to do their part, the scene soon become a lot better, lots went to hiking instead during the “holiday”

I was basically driving to new places all day long

short pain, but better than anything

M.D. are nervous as the 3rd wave could be coming of course.
