I now have whole house lossless Apple Music. Not HiRes due to Apple TV limitation of 48kHz, but this works for me. Thought I'd share for people who want to play lossless Apple Music without using AirPlay, and control Apple Music using iPad/iPhone without iPad/iPhone connected via cable to a DAC.

ROOM A
Apple TV playing lossless Apple Music (not connected to a TV; Apple TV controlled remotely with iPad/iPhone) > HDMI audio extractor> toslink to Wiim Pro > toslink to Topping DX3Pro+ (or other DAC) > RCA cables to amp.

OTHER ROOMS
Same set up. Each room can play lossless Apple Music independently, or play the same lossless music in multiple rooms by linking multiple Wiim Pros.

I think another way to do this would be Sonos / Apple Music. Hi-res lossless looks like it is available "up to 24-bit/192 kHZ FLAC"

I'm an Apple Music user, but for the house I use Roon/Tidal and my own library.
I don't have Sonos gear in my house, unfortunately. In addition to Apple Music, I have my own hi-res library as well, which I stream to the Wiim Pros via DLNA.

I've tried a couple ATV remote handsets - terrible user usability imo. Really turned me off from using the ATV box to stream music. I'll have dig it out of storage to try again.

uh, the iphone can be the sole screen controlling the box ? I'll give it a shot thx !
