Who is or are your favorite Bass players

Charles Mingus
Robbie Shakespear
Leroy SIbbles (most known as lead singer of the Heptones, but also a key session bassplayer at the "Studio One" studio, the studio where reggae was invented).
Jaco Pastorius
Michael Peter "Flea" Balzary
William Earl "Bootsy" Collins

I think Mick Karn from the band Japan deserves a mention: a fretless bass master.

Anther inventive bassplayer: Jah Wobble. Not so much for virtuosity but for originality. Especially when he was a member of PIL (Public Image Ltd).

I like Richard Bona's bass solo in Song For Bilbao. :) That man can play bass.
That version below of Song For Bilbao is superbly arranged, with superb musicians playing, so please listen to the whole song.:)
Richard Bona's solo starts at 4:55:

Unfortunately, as far as I know, that song, that specific performance, is not available for streaming. However, it can be purchased as a CD:

Excellent interview with Flea just dropped on Rick Beato's you tube channel - really interesting chap

Plus Norman Watt Roy from the Blockheads.
Norman is a rather prodigious sweater - as I experienced when I stood by the stage at the 100 club in London a few years back when he played with Wliko Johnson :)
