George "Pops" Foster (1892-1969) from New Orleans was a pioneering jazz bassist who referred to his innovative style as "walkin' the bass fiddle" which became called "slap bass" playing. His autobiographical narration is absolutely great reading.

Victor Bailey played on the last four Weather Report studio albums, then did work on his own. He did 2 nice albums with guitarist Larry Coryell and drummer Lenny White, who I saw him perform with. Died too young.

He he I think I have signed copy of ”That’s Rigth” the wiki article miss some of his releases .

I can’t find. my physical copy ( signed and all ) got it at a jazz and blues festival in Stockholm, rip is still there in my server though .

Movers made a mess of my physical CD collections sorting order . It’s my retirement project to sort my music .

A few more classic players, from the fusion/prog side of the spectrum, that haven't been mentioned:

Jeff Berlin: with Bill Bruford & Alan Holdsworth; alotta pop, fusion, jazz sessions; a dozen solo albums.

Percy Jones: mostly known for Brand X, who I saw him with 2x; fretless player; been doing projects continuously since the 70s, still active.

John Wetton: mostly known for song-writing and vocals; provided a heavy bottom-end to some serious bands, like King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, U.K., Wishbone Ash, Asia; ~10 solo albums.

I just realized I saw Wetton, Anthony Jackson and Stanley Clarke on the same night in 1978!

U.K. (Wetton, with Holdsworth, Eno, Bruford) opened for Al DiMeola (Jackson). For the DiMeola encore, Chick Corea, Lenny White and Stanley Clarke joined his band and played most of Return To Forever's Romantic Warrior album. Some of the U.K. guys ended up on stage, as well. This was probably the most intense 4 hours of musicianship I will ever see.

thats tuff - a lot of really great bassists - but IF I have to choose - then there is no one like THE OX - John Entwistle - he never stops amazing me in his playing. Too bad he died so relatively young, a big loss for the Who <3
