Charles Mingus, Paul Chambers, Scott LeFaro, Nils Henning Orsted Pederson, Jimmy Blanton, Jack Bruce, Duck Dunn, Ransom Knowling... I sang bass in the high school chorus and I've been listening to bass lines ever since. My list is lots longer, but I had to stop somewhere.

Tony Levin - he stands out, because no matter what the instrument, upright, Chapman Stick, fretless - this wonderful fellow is like SRV, but on bass.
It seems to just flow out of him.

Jaco Pastorius
Ray Brown
Charles Mingus
Ron Carter
Paul Chambers

I was a student and employee at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) during the late 70s through the 80s. Emmett Chapman, the creator of the 'Chapman Stick', would play solo, somewhat frequently, in the 'quad' area by the library around lunch time. Sometimes gathered a crowd, sometimes not, but always played something interesting. The range of this instrument is surprisingly extensive.

Charlie Haden.
I had so many delightful evenings with:
- Under Missouri Sky with Pat Metheny
- Ballad of the Fallen, with Carla Bley
- all with Keith Jarrett
- all with Quartet West
...
Yes should have said it too.

Hi everyone.

Ray Brown, for sure, and Gary Peacock from the Keith Jarrett trio.

Thanks, I met the man in about 1982, got the Stick, and saw him at some small venue with a vocalist in L.A. ... Just the two - fascinating. I have the Stick , still... :)

Steinberger, Spector, Stick - sorry for the pic...
