Milton is on the way. We will take a direct hit in Central Florida a few hours after Tampa Bay gets severely tested. Boards went up on windows Sunday, vehicles fueled, outside blow away objects packed away - all done yesterday. Some additional filtered water bag filling to be done today, move my motorcycle to my son’s garage today and we are ready for hunker down time. This will be interesting…….

Good luck Bob hope you all stay safe and it doesn't turn out as bad as Helene.

8 AM Eastern update. Intensity down to 145 MPH. Track is essentially unchanged. Central Florida winds forecast Category 1 to 2, tropical storm force winds for certain.

This is terrible.
I've been all over the west coast of Florida on vacation, from Key West up to Tampa. Always happy times.
For those of you who haven't been there, that part of Florida is mostly one long beach with beach bars and seafood shacks sprinkled among the hotels, condominiums, and lush vegetation. When I'm there I feel like I'm living in a Jimmy Buffet song or a Ross Macdonald novel. Lots of good music, food, golf and art (the Salvador Dali museum in St. Pete for example). I hope there's no loss of life, and also no loss of that way of life. I'm not exactly religious, but I'm praying for everybody down there.

Upvote for Ross Macdonald honorable mention.

Here's the latest. Looks like the 12 hours from 2 AM - 2 PM Eastern for Central Florida with center nearest Orlando about 8 AM. Venice looks like ground zero but the Tampa Bay area is so populated! Tampa Bay General Hospital put up a barrier over 6 feet tall that kept Helene's water surge out. This may not be good enough this time. High tide Tampa Bay is 6:51 AM Thursday morning. This might be helpful as the wind direction may be opposing the tides by then. There was a storm in 1848 that put the area where downtown Tampa is today under 15 feet of water.
@AdamG - if memory serves, Ian paid your locale a visit. How are things looking in your neck of the woods?

Short video of the "Aquafence" at Tampa General in action during Helene. Company claims will withstand a 15 foot surge.

It went down a bit but the system in the Caribbean is expected to push it back up to the projected track. If you have not prepared yet, do it QUICKLY. All buttoned up down here.

Hope all in Milton's path are able to get to safety!

Most notably our helpful moderator @AdamG :)
