Hi everyone,
my Sony WH1000XM4 are completely useless after the firmware upgrade (2.6.0). The fantastic ANC has been completely ruined, and the overall sound quality decreased despite several EQ attempt. Cherry on top is the frustrating white noise when the NC is on and nothing is playing.
So, I reached out to Sony but I'm still waiting for a response, while Amazon has already offered a full refund. So my question: if i would like to upgrade from the XM4, where should i look?
Possible replacements till now:
  • Bose Quietcomfort
  • Sennheiser Momentum 4
  • Sony XM5
I wouldn't like to spend more than 300€, but i can go a little further for a bargain.
Of course, sound quality comes first, then ANC. I can tolerate a less effective ANC if the sound quality is really good. Looking for some advice on that too.

After some tweaking I was content with the XM4, my ears got accustomed to them.
I looked at the reviews by Amir anche the Quietcomfort 45, now replaced, seems to be a good pair of headphones.
Still, I'd like to know if there's room for improvement (better soundstage, more separation and immersion) or if I should just get the cheapest ones.

Thank you!

On the 12/10, i think.
Alright. Seems mine doesn't have that update as new as it is. I certainly won't update it now, so thanks for the heads up.

Did the white noise just start after the update? I'm guessing it's with ANC on?
And what happened with the sound quality? Did the frequency response change?

Why support Sony again if your dissapointed with your XM4?

We had 4 pair of wireless and the only one that didnt dissapointed was Bose 700.

Yeah, absolutely do not update it.
Yes, sound is generally thinner, less "enveloping"(if it makes sense?). White noise appeared right after the firmware update as well.
Without ANC they sound like ass.

I don't know, I was fine until the firmware drop. If it didn't happen i would still rock those headphones!
So maybe next time i'll wait waaay more time before even thinking of updating.

Alright.

Yes, I know they change their response quite drastically without ANC so it must be on for them to be good. But with white noise eating away the dynamic range and masking details, no thank you!
