I have two of them. I keep one at work to keep my phone charged while I follow a sport stream, which I would not put on my work computer. I plug my ear buds in it and it works great. The second one I keep at my bed to charge the phone while I listen to a podcast to fall asleep.
As to the sound quality with music, it's just fine. My understanding is that it uses the same DAC as the Apple dongle.
