Hello, it's my first post and I'm also very new to audio, I have little to no knowledge so I'm sorry if I sound ignorant or say something that's false.
I was looking for a good budget DAC with AMP to run DT990 Pro 250 Ohms and maybe a pair of IEMs in the near future. After doing some research I chose 2 models to consider buying.
Fiio K11 - 200$
Topping DX1 II - 130$
(Prices in Poland)
I rather pay less obviously, but if it's worth it to pay extra for Fiio, I'm willing to, so 200$ is the absolute max I can pay.
I never had a device like that before, my motherboard's audio is horrible so I need a way around it. I'm just looking for a DAC that can run both the DT990 and IEMs, has no background noise, popping sounds etc. I want to buy it once, set it up, and really just forget about it, only changing the gain and volume really. I don't think I will ever need anything better than either of these so I won't be looking for a change for years. I want the sound to just play well, transparent with no changes, when I buy certain headphones I want them for their sound, and for it to be untouched by the DAC. I want enough power to power the DT990, I don't think I will ever get any more difficult to power headphones. I just want this device to be stable, have no problems and do its job. I think the most important thing for me is a peace of mind, no problems whatsoever, I just really don't want to worry about it or think to myself "did I make the right decision?" I want to be sure I did. I know no device is perfect but I want to get as close to it as possible.
I'm not really that into audio, I just extremely appreciate good sound and being able to enjoy it every time I put my headphones on. I mostly play story games, rarely any FPS or shooters. I listen to music a lot, I also watch series etc. So I'm just a regular user who wants a decent audio setup so I will (hopefully) never complain.
The looks of both DACs are fine with me. I like how the Topping is a bit smaller, but it's not a big difference since I have a big desk anyway. The fact that Topping is bus-powered is concerning to me, I'm worried that at any point my motherboard or PC might be a problem, is it even a thing or am I just making it up? Fiio's external power makes me feel safer somehow, but if it's not a valid concern please tell me about it, I really don't know what to think. Fiio also has more power. But I heard that Fiio has a popping sound problem? Is it only a software issue and is this rare?
Every time I find a concern in Fiio I find one in Topping, I can't make the decision that's why I'm making this post, I hope you understand.
So what should I do? Which device is better overall and which one suits me more?
