It creates a problem in buyers' minds, which they never knew they had, then sells the solution.

It's just a buffer stage, possible a very good buffer stage, who knows as there's no spec, but for probably 99% of users, completely unnecessary, and for the 1%, it would be cheaper to buy a better player.

Also seems strange they are using a £600 CDP and the buffer is £2500.

Sounds also similar to a device from maybe 20 years ago.

https://www.audaud.com/audaud/JAN01/EQUIP/equip2JAN01.html

An analog output filter to line up the phase of the output of CD players and DACs. This sounds like the same device with active buffers added. Creating a new perfect phase space and adding bandwidth.

Old cons die hard.

As I recall it was basically a notch filter to run at the sampling frequency and ring any impulses in opposition to the ones that normally occur with a Dirac pulse in a bandwidth limited system. The result would be to undo the ringing and create a single pulse again. Passive versions would slightly roll off the upper frequencies, while active versions compensated for that. Or some variation on that idea.
