define "99% of use" - because if there's something i learned throughout the years of installing audiophile grade sound systems in my car, is that it doesn't matter how good your amps, speakers, sound processor is, when your source (whether it's OEM headunit or crappy aftermarket) is bad (Spotify included as premium audio is 320kbps), it will sound terrible.otoh referring to the Spotify service going to a lossless codec, that's been a football kicked around for years without results. I think mostly because the premium level codecs at Spotify are good enough for 99% of use.
Of course you need a good source but 320 OggVorbis is quite good let alone sound terrible. Sounds more like some sort of expectation bias....and audiophile grade means little.define "99% of use" - because if there's something i learned throughout the years of installing audiophile grade sound systems in my car, is that it doesn't matter how good your amps, speakers, sound processor is, when your source (whether it's OEM headunit or crappy aftermarket) is bad (Spotify included as premium audio is 320kbps), it will sound terrible.
this is from my own short experience with Spotify premium going through my previous car stereo setup -Of course you need a good source but 320 OggVorbis is quite good let alone sound terrible. Sounds more like some sort of expectation bias....and audiophile grade means little.
Somethings wrong with your comparison more likely. Perhaps the delivery method. How about if you use a thumb drive into the head unit?this is from my own short experience with Spotify premium going through my previous car stereo setup -
Android phone connected to Alpine W505 headunit aux in + H701 Alpine sound processor, controlling 2way+sub active system with 2 class A/B amps -
was very easy to tell the difference between playing FLAC files or CDs, and streaming (all from the phone), as Spotify sounded horrible .
320kbps is maybe "good enough" for bluetooth headphones users ,but not when you start amplifying greatly your source
same thing. bad. the W505 was quite old and doesn't support FLAC files on USB, only MP3sSomethings wrong with your comparison more likely. Perhaps the delivery method. How about if you use a thumb drive into the head unit?
Bad just sounds like something's wrong, they aren't that different from each other. Plus its just a car.same thing. bad. the W505 was quite old and doesn't support FLAC files on USB, only MP3s
nothing wrong. CDs sounded incredible, afterwards FLACs, then MP3s from USB, and Spotify premium which sounded the worst.Bad just sounds like something's wrong, they aren't that different from each other. Plus its just a car.
You do what all normal people do who refuse to rebel against consumer society: you subscribe to Qobuz, Tidal, Music, or another digital platform, and you gain access to millions of tracks, for a paltry sum compared to your internet subscription, your cell phone, your computer, and, of course, your stereo. And if you're overcome by an irrepressible urge to own these files you're streaming, you'll find a way to save them to your hard drive by redirecting the audio outputs... But frankly, it's pointless and time-consuming... And no one's stopping you from buying a few albums...Hi everyone,
