Where are all the women audiophiles?

Maybe she kicked them in because they sounded unsufferably :D permanent EQ.
Not exactly how speaker drivers are usually placed on a baffle these days. But Bozak was hardly the only manufacturer that seemingly placed drivers randomly on the baffle back in the day.

Here's a thread about Bozak speakers:

I always wanted to check out some Bozaks but the model I’m interested in are too big for my room and wouldn’t look right.

They must be quite old, because the assembly crew cared to stick the label straight :)

Thanks for sharing this. I guess I'm both surprised and not at the same time. It saddens me to learn that women scientists are discouraged by male peers. You have a daughter who would definitely know better than the rest of us who aren't in her position. Many thanks.
In my area, ASIC design, it was the young male engineers acting unprofessionally around the female engineers. Some couldn't hold their hormones in check and others had trouble working around women who might be smarter.

I personally know of 4 female engineers who abandoned their careers due to these problems.

Sad.

Ask a woman what it’s like to deal with male contractors when doing a home remodel.
I can imagine... And in most cases, probably no other choice.

My wife, while not an audiophile, appreciates good equipment. She wants me to get a turntable so we can shop for records. Her dad used to play records when she was growing up.
So eventually I'll need a phono preamp and turntable.

Many newer ones have built-in RIAA correction, which isn't even bad (own experience, see sig.) Saves money and "adapteritis".

Although we were brought up under the same roof, by the same parents, sometimes I think my sisters and I grew up in different worlds: Long before I was able to articulate any preferences in the matter, my toys were almost all military-, tool- and machine-themed, while my sister's toys had more creative and nurturing themes.

I met the wife after visiting my mother in 1974. She lived in the same condo a (4 plex). What caught my EAR was the music and my eye a 1964 VW Bug that was painted and redone to perfection in black. It was flawless! After visiting Mom, I was nosing around, looking at the Bug, and she came out of her domicile. WOW! We chatted for a minute or two about the car and the music. She was playing Jeff Beck's newest album and had 3 of her buddies over.

They were doing the "bump." WELL I said "me and my buddy have a pint or two of something, would you like to enjoy a shot with us?" The 4 had the day off and were already on their way to party time.

She had a Pioneer receiver, Garrard 301 (GB), and JBL L100s. She knew more about stereo equipment than most guys I knew. Soon enough, we were thick as thieves and have been together ever since.

She is listening to a Mcintosh C2500, Nord NC500 MB, VMPS RM30s, a pair of DOS 12" subs, with DCX2494/12K Behringers (for sub/bass duty) Otari 5050 BII/2, Tascam dual cassette, Thoren TD-124 (all tricked out), Cocktail X45, and a few more goodies as I type. She will swap out the class Ds for a Cary V12r when the temp drops a bit. We are close now. She likes the sound of mids and highs using valves, and of course SS bass and subs. All class Ds now from our older Threshold bass system.

She will listen to that, playing the same records we had when we first met, BUT with a lot better sound. She is actually one of those ladies who will tell you to move your speakers, "they aren't set up as good as they can be." When I helped set up that system 15 years ago in the front room (after the nest was finally emptied), she spent 3 months moving shit around, including a heavy friggin' piano and 4 book cases of heavy hard-bound books. She still opens the sliders on the bookshelves and pulls the books out a certain amount on the back wall and the two parallel walls. She draws the curtain depending on the genre, a certain amount, and tinkers with the tone control to her liking.

She's the audiophile, not me! She misses the days of concerts in the city, south SF, Berkeley, Oakland and Concord. She openly admits she doesn't care for the stair climbs or the people of today, the drive or the crappy sound at most concerts unless it was a good Amphitheater and a great band.

She has a wonderful sounding system. We still have her Fathers Marantz series 7 amps, 7c, Garrard 301/SME 3012, Mac tuner, and Jensen Imperials speakers in the warehouse.

Me, I just fix the stuff and listen to my C20/MX110z/MC225/240 in the shop. I'm usually building a set of cabinets or a plinth for a TT or two.

I collect more, and she listens more, BUT we still roll it out in the backyard in the summer months and enjoy a concert or two. We invite the neighbors over.

I suppose it's the gal you set up house with to tell the truth.

Regards

If only there was a word for a when a bunch of blokes explain something on behalf of women ...

You'll have to explain your post to me. ;)

It doesn't work like that. @Somafunk is right but there's no need for blatant misogynistic comments to sustain the culture and those are thankfully infrequent. It's simply that man-dominated spaces exist for historical reasons and women find it not worth the effort to join them so they continue to exist.

As an experiment, I ignore-listed every post (and thus poster) in the humour thread that included a WAF comment, sexist joke, and so on. Soon enough whole pages were blank. Low-level stuff of course, but often off-putting.

We no longer have our hardcore [political term redacted] moderator, so maybe we can have discussions now (assuming this thread continues to be filled with interesting observations and dialog).

I know of popular conceptions of left brain/right brain distinctions and relation to gender. Left being analytical and associated with masculine, right being creative/emotional and associated with feminine. These are simplistic notions, for sure, and am not sure if neuroscience actually bears these out. I'd be curious to know what science's take on it is. We historically have considered men more logical and women more emotional, at least in my lifetime.

There are nations where boys outscore girls in standardized math test, nations where girls outscore boys, and nations where there is no difference.
