When is a broken panther justified?

Anecdotal evidence is the gold standard for audiophiles.

I've felt for some time that there's a disconnect between quality judged on measurements and quality judged by audibility. Just about any product, including the Amazon Basics amp given a broken panther recently, are likely to be audibly transparent in general use.

Even if the specification isn't met fully, as long as it's Good Enough, shouldn't that be reflected in the rating? If ASR is the one site that can be relied on for purchasing decisions, free of commercial pressure/sponsorship and audiophile nonsense, then I would expect the relationship between test results and suitability for the job required of the item to be reflected in the rating, and not just SINAD.

I see your point. But ASR is setting the standard and in a community like ours it's not about a product matching it's specs it's about surpassing that standard.

Perhaps a mark on whether the device did match specs though Amir usually mentions that.

Anyway, I see where your going with your point it's strong but the whole idea is to lift this standard and if we accept equipment that is fairly transparent and one that purely matches it's specs than we won't be pushing the boundaries of engineering and having superb products in the market.

Why push the boundaries of amplification and DACs, etc, now far beyond adequate.

It's amazing how much has been achieved so quickly and so well when it comes to electronics. And we still have to keep an eye on the charlatans and the lazy, but transducers and rooms - that's the only place that further audible improvements can be had.

Your correct we don't necessarily have to push the boundaries, but an aim of keeping the standard.

We could have a seperate marking system, Im personally not against the idea. It will help some of us choose equipment that is acceptable when buying presents or lower end gear for unique projects.

100% transducers, Erin's corner is testing drivers hopefully that will help bring up standard.

Rooms? Please expand on that very interested.
