What's your favorite cool name for a scientific theory or event... like "Occam's Razor" or "Maxwell's Demon"?

As a profoundly disorganized person, I am pleased to announce that I do more than my share to stave off the heat death of the Universe by locally maximizing entropy to the greatest extent my abilities allow!

Hmm, are you not accelerating our flight into heat death by maximising entropy (locally or otherwise)? Conserve your enthalpy! Outlast your neighbours!

Higgs boson

But probably only because of the Nick Cave song....

Copper nanotubes, actually written in the literature as CuNTs.

We had a campaign (tourist) for the top end, the Northern Territory which raised quite a few eyebrows...

Screenshot 2025-01-17 at 17-22-33 'CU in the NT' is quite possibly the wildest tourism slogan ...png

Brandolini's law.

Brandolini's law, also known as the bullshit asymmetry principle, is an internet adage coined in 2013 by Alberto Brandolini, an Italian programmer, that emphasizes the effort of debunking misinformation, in comparison to the relative ease of creating it in the first place. The law states:

The way this plays out may mean we look forward to the heat death of the universe as entropy will be the only defense against increasing levels of BS.

That is similar to the Gish Gallop.

Schrödingers cat.
Pavlovs dog.

Any more animals?

Not an animal, but there's Shannon's Demon.

That's the same Claude Shannon we know from Shannon/Nyquist applying that remarkable mind to the world of finance.

Phonons are quite something.

The first paragraph from Wikipedia is an unexpectedly powerful example of physics dirty talk.

A phonon is a collective excitation in a periodic, elastic arrangement of atoms or molecules in condensed matter, specifically in solids and some liquids. A type of quasiparticle in physics, a phonon is an excited state in the quantum mechanical quantization of the modes of vibrations for elastic structures of interacting particles. Phonons can be thought of as quantized sound waves, similar to photons as quantized light waves.

Those are a couple of mine... what are some of yours? They can be outdated like "Luminiferous aether" or current like "Oumuamua". Feel free to give a summary or explanation or links to how they got their name.
Those are all really good ones.

Did you every think of applying Ockham's Razor to the Gordian Knot?
