[ According to EFE [Press Agency], practically all the exits from the park these days are to open the doors of the homes of the people who are dying at home so that the toilets can enter and take the body away. "There are people who are alone, they are not hospitalized, they call on the phone and tell them to stay at home and they don't do the test. They end up dying without attention," laments José, who in a single day comments that they came to do 20 exits related to deaths from coronavirus .

Before acting, the firefighters attend calls from family members who warn because the person has not answered for many days or from neighbors who warn of the bad smell coming from a house. "There has not been another crisis like it, this break in people's lives is the strongest we have ever experienced. That's horrible. Geech! It's really bad.

Thousands of unemployed scientists and hundreds of PCR machines cornered by 'a bureaucratic issue'

[ 'We can't invent the coronavirus vaccine, but we can help in the diagnosis." "I have no experience in the handling of viral samples, I am dedicated to the study of cancer samples, but the methodology of analysis is similar and therefore we have sufficient knowledge to perform these tests." The sense of frustration and helplessness that engulfs these two researchers consulted by ABC is the same one shared by hundreds of professionals who are at home at the moment: they feel underused by the Government and denounce the absolute paralysis of science in our country, which has been made available to the authorities against the current coronavirus crisis.

The lockdown seems logical due to the alarm state: the laboratories are closed and only 1 or 2 people come twice a week for the maintenance of the animals. What is not admissible for the researchers consulted - one of them Gema Moreno, head of the Crimeal Research laboratory for Cancer at the Autonomous University of Madrid - is that two weeks ago the Ministry of Health and the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC) called for the inventory of all the quantitative PCR machines that have the research centers, and that material is not being used.

According to several scientists, although not everyone wants to show up with their first and last names to avoid labour retaliation, all laboratories and centers as state-of-the-art as the National Cancer Research (CNIO) provided all their infrastructure and material to the Government. So from the CSIC, and for the Carlos III Institute of Health in Madrid - where patient samples are analyzed - all units and laboratories were asked to describe the material they had. A complete inventory, Moreno assures. "As indicated it was to have an estimate of what equipment we had if necessary; we were also asked for an estimated inventoriable of gloves, and other reagents necessary for both personal protection and the realization of the PCR."... ]

My best friend, 56, lives in London England (I'm in Toronto). He's been tormented over the last couple weeks with COVID and just sent me a picture showing he's in the hospital. Frightening! Though perhaps a silver lining is getting in there before the system is more overloaded.

Sorry for your friend. If he's Boris...say hi from me ;)

[ The first deliveries to Can Ruti [Badalona / Catalonia] were carried out yesterday Sunday and will continue today throughout the national territory thanks to the company, which provides this service free of charge to fight the pandemic. Up to 300 respirators will be distributed daily. ]

TV -> Now one turn. Coming three shifts, 24 h, 150 workers -> 300 respirators by day. Before packing them, sanitize with UV rays.

And to Sevilla [Andalusia] today.

BTW: a day wasted because of bureaucracy.

Here in the UK people there's been a surge of crowd-printing of masks for medical staff.

My wife is a respiratory therapist and dealing with COVID-19 patients. She has a respiratory issue (which is why she chose the profession she did; to help others in her situation) and my daughter has various autoimmune disorders; one being respiratory as well. Needless to say, while I don't want to sound overly dramatic, this stuff is hitting a little bit too close to home for our liking now. Anyway, the car audio community here in the states has gotten together to DIY face shields and a friend of mine is donating some to my wife's hospital. It's awesome to see the community band together in such a way.

My wife has just reported back from her first day at the ward. All she got for protection was a mask, gloves and a plastic apron which she's wearing over her own clothes... 5th largest economy or 3rd world country?

[ SEAT manufactures these assisted respirators with the adapted motor of the windscreen wipers from the vehicles that are assembled in Martorell (Seat Ibiza, Seat León, Seat Arona and Audi A1). For this, it took only a week for the production line to be assembled to assemble the respirators where parts of the Seat León were mounted (specifically the front axle of the compact car).

Each respirator has more than 80 electronic and mechanical components, such as gears printed in SEAT's plate area, gearbox shafts and the adapted motor of a windshield wiper, and it passes an exhaustive quality control with ultraviolet light sterilization .

The device that is assembled in Seat allows ventilation in the absence of conventional respirators in those patients with severe respiratory problems, such as those caused by the coronavirus. It is, however, intended for occasional use in an emergency situation and in the absence of a conventional fan. It allows the manual resuscitation balloons to be automated, mechanically and autonomously, and it also allows the respiratory rate, tidal volume and inspiration-expiration ratio to be controlled constantly and objectively, providing the patient with support that they would not otherwise have... ]

For its possible commercialization it is assumed that it will need a more complete approval, hence for now it is considered only as an emergency respirator.

... My GF works in social care, no PPE whatsoever. So that's working with the elderly and vulnerable etc . The high risk groups .

Shocking , there's not even a sign of it or any kind of coordination that might facilitate it.

To me in the UK it's amazing he's been tested multiple times and his family have been tested .

Virtually no one's been tested here , you just can't get tested even if you might have it. Let alone testing folks in your household.

Even the PM partner who's shown symptoms is only suspected of having the virus as she's not been tested and she's pregnant.

Beyond pathetic, dangerously negligent.

[ The Superior Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha has reported the burial licenses issued by the civil registries of the region due to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, assessing in 1,921 those signed, a figure higher than the 1,132 deceased officers registered by the statistics offered by the Ministry of Health regarding the Autonomous Community. This figure represents 69.7% more than the official figures... ]

[ Deaths grow 96% in March

The data received shows that deaths in Castilla-La Mancha in March 2020 have increased by 96.3% compared to those that occurred in the same period of the previous year.

Specifically, the civil registries of Castilla-La Mancha issued 3,319 burial licenses last March when 1,691 deaths were registered in March 2019.

And of that number of 3,319, in 1,921 burial licenses, 57.9%, is listed as the cause of death COVID-19 or compatible suspicion, referencing as suspicion those cases in which said probability or suspicion is included in the medical certification or there are reasons for this due to concurrent pulmonary pathological processes compatible with said cause... ]

I am afraid that in other countries it will happen the same or, I fear, much worse than in Spain.

I believe this is largely what is happening in NYC, and why there are so many deaths there, i.e., they are just being left at home until it's too late. I even saw a TV interview the other day from a FDNY first responder and she said they were leaving them at home until they get to the point that they have to be intubated, and then take them to the hospital. Well, at that point, you're pretty much a goner. Very sad situation.
