What were your first albums and what do you think of them today?

Your first, or the first two, five, ten (take your pick) you bought with your own money. What do you think of them today?

My first two, which I'm 100% sure were the first, after them I have blurry memories. Both vinyl albums. I still have them and think they're both good.

The movie had just come out so I ended up buying this vinyl. Amadeus (Original Soundtrack Recording):


I may have bought some recording on cassette before I bought my first vinyl records, but I don't remember.... Or wait, I remember. Exactly like this person, this was my first:
(So Duran Duran's first album, which is shown in the picture. What he says about best of I don't understand.)

I listen to that Duran Duran record, via steaming (the cassette is long gone), at some point these days. A superb pop album.

In 1978 I got Genesis Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering, and ELO A New World Record whilst on holiday in the Scottish Highlands.

Still favourite albums today.

At the late 1960ies I got a LP album That's Soul with soul music from different performers. Since I like this genre among others still today I listen to it sometimes, but digitized as .wav files. This before I had 45 rpm singles especially from Jerry Lee Lewis.

First cassette I bought was Iron Maiden- Number of the Beast as I had just received a Walkman style player with a radio and shoulder cord/strap. I remember going into Woolworths in Castle Douglas (sw Scotland) with my parents and spending my Xmas vouchers from my gran on the cassette as I thought the cover was cool, must’ve been Xmas 83.

Not listened to it, or any of the heavy metal music I was into from 83-91 ever

I guess technically my first album was The Story of Star Wars LP with picture book but it was a gift when I was 8. Needless to say I played the hell out of it, so much so that my parents got me some cheap Koss closed back headphones to plug into the Montgomery Wards integrated amp we had so I could play with my toys on the bookshelf to my hearts content. Wow, now I feel old....

Later on, when my tastes evolved a little, my first vinyl purchase was Lou Reed's Berlin. I still listen to it.

Before my own money the first album I permanently borrowed from one of my older brothers was

They are still a big part of my regular library and again I got lucky at 6 years old or so that they made music a for a long time, not as prolifically as AC/DC though. Or this band, the first record I permanently borrowed from my sister.

Hair of the dog at a friends house around 7 or 8 was the first taste of Nazareth for me. We had record clubs they called them here, marketing but album or albums per month. We would all get different and go to each others house to listen. That sharing went on through early 20’s for me, I kind of miss it but get it here in a way.

The first was definitely the Stones greatest hits, the rest were some of the next, it was 1970, I was in high school, I had a job, I bought a turntable (belt drive, grace arm, shure carttridge), rotel receiver and diy speakers (seas, tweeter and 10" woofer), i went nuts

cant remember the exact order and there were more early ones and a number of casualties
really only listen to CSN, Santana and John Mayall regularly (digital only these days), however listened the Chicago album recently(not for 20 years) and was impressed by the musician ship and the quality of the recording really well done
by the way Beggars Day from Hair of the Dog is still a favorite

I would consider my first were hand me down albums from my brother. Favorite, "Bookends" by Simon & Garfunkel.

The lyrics got me I don't know why, just related to them. Now, understanding the album as a metaphor for life I was sorta an ols soul with a side of weird as my favorite track was old friends followed by Punky's Delimma.
