Hi,

Im about to do some new measurements with my new main speakers and I feel the output balance of the sub is off. Sometimes too soft and then when I put on Massive Attacks "Angel" it blows the windows out.

Can someone show me a graph on what a balanced output for sub together with main on a high pass and low pass at, say, 80hz should look like? Should I mute the main and run a sweep and set the subs at around 75db, and mute the subs, unmute the mains then aim for the same 75db with the mains? Do you run a sweep with both sub and mains after measurements, PEQ, crossover and see if output is stil alligned? Any help is welcome!

Roughly like this:
Synthesis Target Curve (1) (1).jpg

You can adjust the bass shelf amplitude to preference.

More speaker targets available here:

Before worrying about level, what is the time delta between the mains and subs?

If the time alignment is wrong, there will be dips and valleys across their common area.

What are the filters & orders for the sub LP & mains HP?

Im busy with minidsp ddrc24 and their great instructions. I didnt even know actually you dont have to do all the measuring and decide what and wich peak and how much to correct. Autorew can do all that, make a correction file to load into the minidsp and Bobs yer uncle!

The only thing i skipped there, was the time alignment explanation.

Just for grins a while back, I did several REW Auto-EQ iterations for the Flex Eight and didn't like any of them.

Response is much flatter, but sounds contorted.

A less heavy hand in and some slight XO adjustments are much more musical.

It did sounded a bit strange but the measurement looks right. Much better than before measurement in REW.

The sound is great though. Who knows, ill soften some adjustments but atm it works a treat when before i couldnt get the marriage with my new mains right.
