Just who comprises the current touring version of EWF?

Just went through a lot of the EWF albums on Qobuz, and they all sound pretty compressed to me. "The World's a Masquerade" from the Head to the Sky album has some interesting dynamics and recording tricks that might illustrate some differences. But none of the records sound very natural to me.

I saw EWF when they just started touring without Maurice and Philip Bailey actually covered most of Maurice's lead vocals. He did it surprisingly well as he had a lower register that he could make sound quite a bit like Maurice.

Still, while Bailey was the showier singer, Maurice was my favorite EWF vocalist.

My younger son became utterly addicted to the live version of Can't Hide Love, for some reason. To the point it drove me nuts having to hear it constantly.

No surprise to me. The song itself – at least the studio version – is one of my favorite ones.

Actually, I’m about to add »Chicago (Chi-Town) Blues« (Album Millennium) to my selection :)

Let’s assume you’re going to demonstrate the capabilities of your audio system to an innocent visitor – by playing an Earth, Wind & Fire song. And let’s further assume, you both hate »September« ;)

Just went through my Earth, Wind & Fire albums, and found it pretty hard to pick some perfect tunes for this.
Anyway. My short list goes like this:

• Fall In Love With Me (Album Powerlight)
• Pass You By (Album Illumination)
• The Changing Times (Album Raise!)

What would be your selection?
Just checked out 'September'.
I wouldn't play that for my dead dog.
I remember that there were some songs I used to like by EWF but none are in my collection of LP's or CD's, so I didn't like them that much.
I'll have to check out some of the others suggested here.
Perhaps Chicago's songs will fare better (I never owned any of them either). But at least I thought of EWF in a likeable way, can't say that about Chicago (the band or the city).

I know better than to bring this up, but I will none the less stick my finger into my own eye. Just today I had a woman friend over and I gave her a demonstration of my audio system to show that it was capable of good sound. I put on a Grieg's Peer-Gynt suite which is orchestral and lush, and not acerbic modernism. Question, is it fruitless and pointless to attempt this sort of thing with women????

That looks about the same to me but, yes, touring might be different.
Only one member different. And yeah sometimes schedule conflicts get in the way and can change that....just curious rather than need an exact answer. It still amazes me groups this old can still tour big!

I'm a long time EWF fan and their albums sound spectacular! In fact, in the 80s when my audiophile dad brought home big KEF 105.2 speakers and Carver amps, EWF was often the go-to demo to blow the minds of my friends :)

In The Stone is a terrific audio demo, the way it starts with that sort of distant progressing towards you march of synth and percussion, then just explodes in to a big soundstage of percussion and groove.

Really anything from All 'n All up to Powerlight is demo-worthy stuff!

BTW, have you listened to their 90's live album? Earth Wind & Fire - Greatest Hits Live (1995). It's an INCREDIBLE sounding live album. Tons of instruments, all beautifully clear and rich, wide frequency range, the sound is MASSIVE and concert-like, yet the vocals retain a very nice human quality too. The drum solo in Africana is amazing - it's been one of my test tracks for many years.
Since you vary format a bit (as do I): Digital (CD or something else)? or LP?
I do primarily LP, CD (about equally) or (less) FM Radio and a smattering of digital downloads, cassette tape & (even less) Reel to Reel.

I stayed single until I was 48. Therefore I committed serial monogamy with a number of women in many parts of the world. All but 2 did not care about great sound. And the one I married doesn't care about it either. Based on my own experience: if it is convenient, they can hear the words (whether they know the language or not) and if it does not sound horrible, then most women seem to be fine with it. Or, at least it is among their lowest priorities.

As far as it’s about language or communication (which includes music), women tend to care much more about the content (message, meaning) than about the form or shape of it. Compared to men that is.

Sly would be good, too, tho.
He joined EW&F for »Good Time« (Album Heritage)

Apart from that, »The Same Thing (Makes You Laugh, Makes You Cry)« (Album Back on the Right Track)

Why not?

Because you don't like their music?

You aren't making an inference from a concert this year to "therefore they have no demo-worthy tracks from past albums" are you?

Personally I've found that EWF is one of the most user-friendly demos I know of. Virtually everyone seems to be able to appreciate both the sound and the music.
Never been a fan. When I was selling audio gear 70's and early 80's they were not a band I would have used for demo's.

Could it be that you mean this 1994 Japan concert album? I can’t see any album released with that name or in 1995.
