I have recently added a couple of lens to my Fujifilm X mount collection.
- FUJINON XC50-230mmF4.5-6.7 OIS II telephoto, and
- FUJINON XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ. This, of course, fits in the "normal" zoom range.
As you might be aware Fujifilm's small selection of 'XC' lens is considered
not necessarily equal in quality to their 'XF' range. The XC's are cheaper and, apart from the glass, are primarily made of plastic. The plastic has a lot to do with their lighter weight.
So as for the XC55-230mm lens I think it will be adequate for me, given I'm not a bit telephoto user in the normal course. It has in-lense stabalization, (OIS). This lens obviously is disadvantaged by relatively small apertures -- but then it is cheap and light.
As for the XC15-45mm, I already owned a
FUJINON XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS. Just now I'm not sure which lens I'll use most often, but I suspect for travel I'll be leaning to the XC15-45mm. How come? Well the XC lens is smaller and
significantly less than half the weight of the XF lens. The XC15-45mm benefits, (in my case), by having a short, 23mm equivalent, minimum focal length. It does have the in-lens OIS stabalization (like the XF).
On the downside, the XC15-45mm:
- Has a plastic lens to body mount, but I'm assuming my relatively light usage won't make this a problem.
- It lacks the mechanical OIS and auto aperture controls as on the XF lens, though menu controls provide these features.
- It has obligatory power zoom. Power zoom (at least on a still camera) is pain in the butt, IMO.
As yet I'm not sure of the picture quality of the XC15-45mm versus the XF18-55mm. I suspect the XC is just a bit less sharp at the edges than the XF.
