Hi all ASR members,
Douk Audio is planning to design a compact desktop tube headphone amplifier with VU meters. The project is still at a very early concept stage, and we'd really like to hear your genuine thoughts.
Whether it's about appearance, features, or technical details, feel free to speak your mind. Your feedback and suggestions could directly influence the final product.
Here are some specific areas we'd love your input on:
Sound signature: Warm, lush "tube sound", or more transparent and low-distortion?
Features: Do you need preamp outputs (for active speakers)? A gain switch? EQ control?
VU meters: Do you prefer real analog meter movement, or just decorative LED simulation? Should the backlight be adjustable or switchable?
Appearance: Metal, wood, retro, minimalist… what does your ideal desktop tube amp look like?
Feel free to use AI tools to generate images of your dream design and share them in this thread. We're really excited to see your creativity.
Inputs & outputs: What's the bare minimum you need? Is USB necessary? Are balanced outputs (4.4mm / 4-pin XLR) a must-have?
Headphone compatibility: Which matter more to you — high-impedance dynamics, low-impedance high-sensitivity IEMs/headphones, or planars?
Price range: What price range would you expect for such an amplifier?
Also, if you've used any small tube amps on the market and have thoughts on "what could be improved," please let us know.
Thanks in advance for your input. All ideas are welcome!
