What items have you purchased as a result of ASR?

Guess I never posted my Denon X4700H AVR here.
Serves as a really decent preamp for my 5.2.4 music system..

After 40 years of buying high quality expensive gear I have been awaken by Amir and his excellent site to high quality in-expensive gear.

Started my journey with a Linn LP12 turntable > Naim Nait Amp > Tannoy 12" sub > Linn Kann speakers ... loved this system so much that I didn't convert to CDs to very late and really lost interest in hifi until the advent of iTunes & digital downloads. In 2012 purchased a Benchmark DAC1 and a pair of Adam A7 active speakers, simple and excellent system.

After 10 years at the Computer Audiophile forum I saw the light and based on Amir's reviews I purchased the following for a variety of systems:

STREAMERS
Chrome cast Audio x 3
Sonos Connect x 3 .... pre 2014 are bit perfect and are great using optical out
WiiM Mini (streamer)

DACS
SMSL SU 8 DAC
Topping D50S
Benchmark DAC 2

AMPS
Nord / Hypex NC400
Buckeye / Hypex 252MP
Denon AV

Very grateful for Amir's work as it allows me to buy with confidence.

Buckeye Purify 2 channel stereo) pulling the trigger shortly
SMSL SU 10 DAC
Fosi 2nd version of small amp.

Started from local forum filled with classic persons suggesting things they had themselves or heard in showrooms.
But fortunately before I did a purchasing decisions for the speakers I found ASR and as an electrical engineer myself felt that this is something I was looking for - rare fact based society in the world of bad marketing practices.

I bought KEF R3 purely because of the ratings here, but since then I also read several books, got deeper into the topic of audio and realised how foolish I was trusting a rating even on a site like this, cause there's a lot of nuances when choosing speakers.

Thankfully KEF R3 are very "forgiving" to the room and I have a room correction in my receiver.

After that I choose more thoughtfully and bought also KH80 for my PC to write and play music and also JBL 305P MkII for my children's room and Adam T7V that are now playing at my kitchen.

ASR is extremely helpful and useful forum with great idea behind it and great society that powers it.

Thanks for the kind words.
We're happy to have folks like yourself here.
Cheers

One might also ask "what have you sold"?

Just one - After reading Amir's review of the SMSL-D6 DAC, I bought it from Amazon...

This is my first stand-alone DAC, and I absolutely love it.
I'm upsampling my FLACs, realtime, in Foobar to DSD 256, and using the DAC's direct DSD input via USB.
I'm still amazed that I'm able to send DSD 256 to the DAC over a phone-charging cable ( ! ). But it works just fine.
Fantastic audio quality and solid playback without any issues.

Thanks Amir !

Monoprice THX AAA headphone amp
Topping E50 DAC
Vanatoo Transparent One

Very happy with all 3 purchases.

Well, the usual suspects; Revel, Genelec, Sennheiser, topping, SMSL, Dan Clark, Denon......
But as many have said, the best value is what you have not buy as a result of ASR.

dacs, lots of dacs

before ASR I was quite ambivalent about this entire line of products

like why bother with this shit when you got a dac built into your amp or avr etc.

doesnt seem like its worth buying another box when so many companies give you one for 'free'

yeah when they give you one for free its likely to be shit

Topping E30 DAC
Apple Dongle
Schiit Modius Balanced DAC (it displaced the E30)
Schiit Mani phono stage
Truthear ZERO EIM

Wharfedale Diamond 220s (*great* speakers, if a bit bright in my room.)

... and just yesterday, Mission LX-2 Mk. IIs (being shipped as we speak). Hopefully just right. :)

SOLD ? Do people sell their old gear ??? :p
Somehow it became easier after spending some time here. Just recently ditched all this. Also found out I could get money for some old fancy cables and some old streamer/DACs I've tried are now on the market (IFI iDSD, Volumio Primo, Pecan Pi, Cambridge DacMagic). Think I'll invest in some Wiims/SMSL DACs to take their place. The cables I already arbed into Blue Jeans and pocketed several hundred bucks.

And my wife is THRILLED.

This forum gave me the final push to look into room correction and buy a Dirace license and required gear. Paradoxically, even though it is a product *not* recommended by Amir, it also confrmed the NAD D7050 is a performance-feature bargain... when used as a digital integrated amp, and staying far away from using it as a DAC. :-)
