I've been reading this site for a few years after googling DACs and finding the reviews here. And I joined recently to answer this question. Everything I have purchased in the last couple years have been a result of being on this forum.
My desk setup is a Topping DX3 Pro+, that is connected to iLoud Micro monitors, and Hifiman HE4XX headphones. I bought the Topping because of the great review here, and the iLoud Micros because they were recommended by a few members. As were the headphones. In fact I couldn't find a bad review about any of these things, and it seemed even the subjectivists on YouTube were in agreement with the reviews and members here. Everyone was right, all of this sounds great to me.
My main system is, for now, Genelec 8030C connected to a Topping DX5, purchased because of the reviews here and I found both of them used on another site. The Genelecs were 900 for the pair, the DX5 was 300. Both were in excellent condition, and I'm convinced the DAC was never used, the packaging hadn't been touched. I had not heard the 8030s but from the review on this site and the endless praise that they got from every member who had heard them, I knew they would sound great and they have exceeded my high expectations. This setup is in my living room and I play music through an Intel NUC connected to the DX5 that I control with a wireless keyboard and the monitor is my TV. An LG OLED that I checked out in stores because of Amir's glowing review of OLED tv's. When I saw them in the stores I realized his words didn't do them justice. The picture is almost too good, things are clearer and brighter than real life most of the time. I have also tried some EQ on the Genelecs because I have an equalizer on the PC that I use as a source. I tried Amir's recommendation in the 8030 review, as well as some settings provided by a member here. Although I don't notice much of a difference.
I'm almost 50 and know that because of ASR I am hearing and seeing things better than I have in my entire life.
