What is next step after Revel F206?

I know this may be controversial as I am going to kill someone's holy cow. So I will tread lightly.

Revel are superb speakers, but they are dated. . .there are so many new speakers on the market that are out performing the Revel based on objective data.

I owned the F226Be, it was good until I moved to newer speakers that I have now.

Ascend Acoustics ELX RAAL, is what I would recommend for the <$6k range, it can go against speakers many times as expensive, imo.

I also have a pair of Perlisten, I can't possibly recommend them enough. These are my end game, unless some major passive speaker breakthrough comes along.

Also, consider active speakers, like Genelec or Neumann or D&D.
Agreed, revels are *good*.... There are other speakers out there nowadays that are a bit better, but I wouldn't ( speaking for myself ) dump a pair of speakers as good as most revels just to upgrade by 5% -10% in most cases..

What objective data precisely?
 
Personally, as a Musician who's spent time performing I think audiophile "sound stage" ratings are mostly subjective mumbo jumbo. The music is mixed on a sound board in studio or a live venue and rarely sounds the same as the performance. Instruments are mixed to left or right or in between. When people make a big deal about sound stage it's a little strange to me. Mostly what I'm looking for is clarity and appropriate balance between instruments, not necessarily exactly where each pan setting is configured.
What Erin was saying is: if a driver is beaming before it hands off to another driver sometimes an instrument can be " separated" into 2 different positions in the soundstage based on the " hole" in f.r.... It's not something subjective... To me it makes perfect sense..others may disagree, I would assume because they haven't had it a/b'd for them

I have never heard that. You can only pan left, right or a variation in between. In some cases, instruments might bleed over into other mics which could cause that effect too. We can get really esoteric about sound but understand ears can play tricks as well as the mind. At some point, you realize it's just music and enjoy it or not. After a while you start to realize a lot of audiophile talk is gibberish. :D

I tend to agree with most of your thoughts here.. As far as the response being separated: let's see if I can explain this adequately, I'm not sure if I can do Erin's assessment justice....if a driver is beaming and and part of the f.r. is in the suck out point the instruments that are supposed to be in that f.r. won't be as audible in the assigned spot, while the " mushroomed " area one the other driver is playing that instrument at a slightly higher freq( if it's the tweeter) in that spot, making it sound like the part the tweeter is playing is in a different part of the soundstage
 
Theoretically based on that : the ascilabs should* soundstage better, but that's based on something Erin said in regards to even dispersion vs speakers that"mushroom" because of beaming drivers...I would suspect that the revels are pretty decent in soundstage nevertheless.....
They certainly are - possibly as good as my small, irregular room will allow. I've been following the original Ascilab thread from the beginning and had all but decided on the A6B until I solved my bass below 300Hz (especially after Dirac Live) and so I don't need that kind of extension and unused passive radiators. They don't have a higher-end sealed model so I'm not sure where to go outside of DIY Purifi (maybe with the 5.25") but I'm no RickS ;).
