What is DEQ & EQ on input used for?

I’m on a very steep learning curve and getting in a muddle.

I’m trying setup an active dsp crossover and have noticed the there are settings for inputs as well as the output.

The inputs and outputs have lo-shelf, hi-shelf, APF-1st and APF-2nd,

In addition, the inputs have DEQ settings (which I assume is Dynamic EQ) and the outputs have x-over settings.

What I’m struggling to understand is why you would EQ the inputs, my assumption was that you would EQ and crossover the ouputs.

Confused, can anyone explain in simpleton terms?
 
Think of it as DEQ correcting the individual elements/bands/channels or baked-in eq of the source. Output eq is then applied to the whole.

So one is preparing the ingredients and the other then flavours the whole dish.
 
One nice thing about MiniDSP EQs on inputs and outputs is that it effectively gives you double the filters. EQs for outputs are obviously great to address issues which are not present in all speakers.

Another thing is that if you phase align a sub with the mains and you set the crossover, then you can EQ away any room modes with the EQ on the input and the phase and amplitude response of the sub and main will move together. If you EQ the output channels near the crossover, the EQ will effectively change your crossover frequency, the amplitude response will not change by the amplitude of the EQ because each speaker doesn’t make the full sum of the signal, and the minimum phase EQ will throw your crossover out of phase.
