what interface to buy?

Listen to what everyone is telling you: the Focusrite has its deficiencies, but sounding "thin" is not one of them. It is measurably transparent and it will not add any character of its own. It will NOT sound better than an RME or a Motu, or even a Merging if you had the cash. The deficiencies of the Focusrite are lack of some of the features you will find on its more expensive competitors. Like a full featured mixer on RME, bulletproof drivers on RME and Motu, and so on.

You have been provided a graph that PROVES that the Focusrite will not add any character, and you dismissed that as "unscientific". The measurements show it won't add any colour, and that should be the end of it. Yet you continue to insist that there is a difference based on random Youtube videos using different recordings and different microphones with unmatched SPL's - the very definition of an uncontrolled test. The only person being unscientific here is YOU!

What you want is someone to make a recommendation of RME sound quality for Focusrite money, according to YOUR perception of RME sound quality. That's not going to happen on ASR. Maybe go try Gearspace (formerly Gearslutz), there are some pro audio subjectivists there who might be more willing to entertain you.
u believe in graphs given by the very same companies who made these interfaces?! wow

You are not understanding.

You complain about alleged frequency response issues. Yet you reject data from an independent engineering forum (ASR) showing you the actual frequency response.

Even more absurd, go to YouTube to get all sorts of silly opinions about the sound. And use YouTube to rando-compare different songs for similar sound... comparing different songs for similar sound.

And to top it off can't use YouTube to get product information about another model you bought and returned:
TRhere's somerthing that really pisses me off with the id4. Every time i restart my pc, the volume settingh is lost, so I have to turn the volume knob up again. This is unacceptable!
There are literally dozens of YouTube videos describing the exact volume control reset that pisses you off so much. Some videos discuss it as a feature to prevent over-volume events, some videos discuss how to work around the problem you find so insurmountable.

YouTube is for unboxing videos, often from a YouTuber with monetary incentive to boost a product.
ASR is where people send in their stuff to get actual measurements of objective performance.

is here anyone that understands audio?
Im look9ingfor a neutral sounding interface

I'll sell you my Delta 1010 for 50€. 8ch balanced I/O, S/PDIF, MIDI, SMPTE wordclock, 1-2ms latency stable performance, direct monitoring, ASIO.

Sockets need cleaning and you'll need a Win7 PC with PCI slot, but it's perfectly neutral.

focusright has boosted highs and mids not showing in this unscientific graph. THere's many utubers that say this about the focusrite that it sounds coloored and ity's been measured.
Focusright is the worst of them all.

@ LTig the RME is insanely expensive
theres a switch for flat or "classic", classic is coloured. If you aren't using it for measuring electronics most decent ADC/DACs will sound the same. Look for the features and bundeld software you want. I have a Motu m4 that does what I want ( mostly used for jaming) and it came with Performer lite DAW with a few plug ins.
So more about what you want to do with it than sound quality these days.

I think the only option is a babyface pro fs

OP, you really are in the wrong place. The factors you think are important, are largely considered imaginary here.

Interfaces have no "sound", they are transparent (= sound the same) or they are broken.

Go discuss your nonsense where other people share your delusional belief system.

Honestly, Gearspace would be a better forum to ask. The userbase there would have much more hands-on experience with interfaces, and I'm sure there's a proportion of users who have thoughts on how interfaces sound

I would recommend the Motu MK5 as an all around unit. Unfortunately the price has gone up like most things, but the drivers and software are stable and frequently updated.

A nice review list with links to the measurements of each device

Here are a lot of members who understand audio of course. After all above I can't understand what your intention is. Most of the better interfaces have a linear response not making any specific sound when not driven into distortion. So this question was answered. I do not talk about cheap 20 $ interfaces.

the big question is if Julian Krause measured the interfaces himself and uploaded the data sheets or if he pulled the data from the manufactorors

He literally tells you in the first sentence of the video. He also uses phrases like "In my testing", "highest of all of the interfaces I tested", etc. throughout the video. You didn't watch? Or not paying attention I guess.
He tests all of these audio interfaces. He has a video on each one, including measurements of the important performance aspects, including the frequency response. But you already said frequency response is unscientific.

if his tests were valid then the interfaces showing a flat frequency response curve in his tests would all sound the same, but they dont

AGAIN. Please STOP that.

You cannot assert that with any credibility here without blind level-matched testing, isolating any other factors, with a statistically significant sample count.

And it seems that would be too great a challenge for you, as it is for most of us.

If you at least stated "I realise this is just subjective, but my perception is..." then maybe we would be less inclined to tell you to go elsewhere!

Do you want to buy a reasonable audio interface or just have nonsense talk to us? If second, please leave this forum which has the word "scientific" in it.
Sound differences can be but not as "warm" "shrill" "dimmed" "enhanced voice" etc. This can all be measured and has be partly done. If the unit works linear in terms of frequency and amplitude then there is no colored sound. Most coloration comes anyway from the microphone model used for recording. This is like at loudspeakers. It is the transducers not the electronics.

Buy the RME ADI-2 PRO. Use its EQ to make the sound warm or whatever you like it to be (seriously). It is so expensive it must be the best, right?
