Any other high end closed backs. Silly really as at 54 I'm probably too deaf to tell the difference but what the heck these are toys and its not like I spend money on anything else :->
I stay away from multi thousand-dollar headphones out of principle. Audio quality is important to me, but not nearly important enough to indulge these companies with such excess. Around $1,000 is the most I will ever spend.

Bought a new (used) Sony XBA-N3 iem as I’ve been after a set for a couple of years, very impressed with the sound quality and I’m definitely keeping them.

The original cable is rather microphonic so I’ve swapped my Dunu Vulkan cable over and it works perfectly fine with the earhooks

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon waiting for someone to do their shopping. Wandered over to Richer sounds and had an impromptu listen to the senn HD820 and the focal clear mg's.

Unfortunately the source quipment was teh Sennheiser HDV820 headphone amp and some Cambridge Box (this wasn't a serious audition). Listened to Paul Simons new Seven Psalms (Paul Simon has definitely got it going again). I was quite taken with the Focal's they sounded very nice indeed. Made wonder about the Stellias and the Utopia. The 820's were fairly impressive but I know they get mixed reviews.

Anyway it was a pleasant way to while away an hour or two.

Which do you prefer between the Stealth and Susvara? Also have you heard the Expense? Thanks

I'm not so a headphone person but bought for wireless convenience beginning this year a JBL tune 510BT which sound quality supprises me especially after correction. A month later i bought a Sony WH-1000XM2 which has imo the flatest frequency curve (of these seriers) after correction. It is the convenience regardless of place playing high resolution files (LDAC codec) wireless with NC to buy me such headphone. For total conveniency (not want to start up the windows laptop each time) it took me some time to stream my high resolution files located on my 3TB hdd (used as backup) over the Rapsberry Pi flawlesly house wide. The Wavelet app put the icing on the cake. Especially the amount of correction that can be applied in Wavelet for maximum personal transparancy. Genius piece of software:cool:

No I have not listened to Expense.

Between stealth and susvara is hard...
stealth bit better in the lows...
susvara more natural overall...

It is more like personal taste between sealed and opened. Both are great receivers and hard to put in a line. But if I must maybe susvara>=stealth...

Added more gears!

Hd800s, LCD-5, Solitaire p.

But the best is earmic and HRIR!

Measure and dial in little more tuning and bam!

The only sound that amazed the family in my hifi trip. Liked it so much I gave the HD800s.

Down side is you lose most of summit-fi goodness but you get real hi-fi goodness

But Setting good hifi system for HRIR is hard... Nothing easy...

Yes! That is a beautiful program really...
Yes, I really would like to try that, but I've just been too lazy recently!

Heard the focal Stellia today off my topping e50/l50 stack against my DCA Aeon 2 Noires. Much fuller sound which I enjoyed. Slightly less detailed and couldn't place instruments as well. A thing of beauty though - nicer in the flesh than in the pictures. As an experience it was very pleasant especially with a nice cup of quality coffee whilst I listened to a range of music but they didn't get my money. To change I would describe it as a sideways move for almost 2.7K GBP which was not sensible .. I was actually far more taken with the Sennheiser hd820's when I heard them back to back and the focal clear mg's. I also heard the headphones on the Naim Uniti. It was nice but it wasn't as good as the e50/l50 and cost a shed load more. it looks like my options are starting to look more like DCA stealth or Expanse or Senn hd820/hd800s. I haven't heard the meze elite or the focal utopia

I have some classics (K371, K702, Koss KSC75) and the controversial Sennheiser HD 700 (sounds very nice with EQ).

Recently needed a pair of headphones for phone calls with a better built-in mic and recalled Beyerdynamic released some Made-In-China "gaming" headsets (MMX 100 and MMX 150).

I have the MMX 100 and it's pretty good. It has accentuated treble (but not like DT990 from my memory) and some kind of hole in the mids that make it sound spacious for a closed back. Good bass too. The cable though is horribly microphonic.

Not much info on this one, but there is a nice disassembly video here:

SoundGuys did a measurement of those on BK5218 and it's not horrible either.
I do get seemingly more bass than they did, though.

Anyway, I actually like how they present music, but they just sound a bit off for games. I expected the opposite:)
