Let us know how the IE 300's compare to the CX 300S. I'm very curious. Sennheiser Canada has the IE 300 on sale from $399 to $260. It looks like a good deal. :D

What do you think of them ? (I love them: great sound and great comfort).
I'm impressed everytime I put them on. Using oratorys IEM eq curve, I finally have a unit that will play things like old school rock very well. With EQ, I love pretty much any music with these. I have said before that I would not buy IEMs, but they are much more practical on the go so I gave it a go. Using them with Qudelix 5K, I have no regrets at all. They're okay without EQ aswell, but a bit dark and also siblant.

I feel no need to upgrade from these, I would probably have to pay a lot more to get something noticeably better when using EQ. Ofcourse my experience with IEMs is not great, but this was a very nice surprise to me.

My three main pairs, one of them is missing at the moment, as it has been sent to a certain someone for review ;)

I used a set of DT770 80ohm for a good 10+ years and then more recently the Focal Elex. I'm currently looking for some mid range closed backs with a similar step up in quality to the Elex.

Just curious ...
What headphone(s) do you currently own ?
Which one(s) is(are) used the most, or is your favorite ?
Modhouse Argon mk 3
Harmonicdyne Zeus
Drop 6xx
Drop/Dan Clark Aeon X Closed
Phillips Shp9500
Grado 80x
Kph30i
Ikko Oh10
7hz Timeless
Many gaming headsets
Probably getting LCD-X soon too.

I’ve now wittled down to

HD650
Susvara

Moondrop Variantions

I have an Etymotic ER2XR, which I use as earplugs at work.

The Susvara is used daily. I live in an apartment, use them watching tv, doing the dishes ( :D ) and gaming.

I use the Variations when out in the shops.

The HD650 gets used very rarely nowadays. I keep them, just because they were my favourite headphones for over a decade, I have a soft spot for them.

@faheem Wow, congratulations to the Susvaras... How do you drive them when you do the dishes for expample? I read these are quite power hungy... Do you have a mobile amp for these situations that works well?

I use a Fiio BTR5 alot, for when I’m doing chores. The BTR5 gets up to about 96dB @ 1khz SPL.

I also have another BTR connected to an XCan which gets the Susvara to over 105dB SPL

I also have an ifi Diablo and a Topping A90 whuch I use more when I sit down and want to get into my music.

I’m a low volume listener most of the time, but the Susvara can be driven to over 95dB SPL on 2V.

Below is a list of what it takes to drive a Susvara to 95,105 and 115 dB SPL.

1.51V - 95dB
4.78V - 105dB
15.1V - 115dB

My current line up:

Audeze LCD-XC (2021)
Sennheiser HD58X
7hz Timeless
DUNU SA6

During the pandemic I went through 30 +/- different sets. At one point I had 12 at the same time. Down to just my 'keepers' now. I kind of had a 'problem'

To name a few: E-MU Teak, Elex, Clear (OG), Radiance, Stellia. LCD-XC (2018), LCD-X (2019), LCDi4, LCD-2F, LCD-3. HD6XX, HD800, HD800S. Ether CX. KOSS ESP/95X. JVC HA-DX2000. Eikon, Verite. Hifiman Arya V2, HE-X4, HE5XX. beyerdynamic Dt 177X GO.

Bought my first pair of decent headphone, DCA Aeon 2 Noire, this month and wondered why I didn't do so earlier!
I chose Aeon 2 Noire after reading so much about it on this forum and its out-of-the-box tuning being closest to the Harman curve so I didn't have faff around with EQ-ing.

Before I decided on the Noire, I didn't know that Bruce Thigpen (of Eminent Technology) had a hand in the design with Dan Clark on the magnetic planar drivers used in the Aeons. Why I mentioned it? Well I have pair of Bruce's ET-LFT16 bookshelf speakers that I really like the sound of.....except for the narrow directivity that you need to keep your head in a vice to reap the sonic benefits.

Had a pair of Sennheiser Momentum BT On-ear with ANC that I used as a daily hack on trains and flights.

Headphones you say?

Audeze Sine
Audio Technica ATH-MSR7
Audio Technica ATH-MSR7SE
Beyerdynamic T1
Beyerdynamic DT250-80
Blue Lola
Campfire Audio Cascade
Fostex(Massdrop) TH-X00 EB
Grado RS2e
Hifiman HE-6
Koss Porta Pro Classic
Mr Speakers Aeon
Sennheiser HD800
Stax SR-007A
Stax SR-507
Tascam TH-02

My Favorites which I find myself listen the most are HE-6, Aeon and Cascade. I have sold a few over the years. If I need to drop a few headphones in this list I would say the Beyers and the Blue will go first.

: Update

Recently added the Audeze LCD-XC 2021 in this list minus the TH-02. I had my sights on Aeon2 Noire. But after spending time with the demo units. the XC won me over. HE-6 will remain in the list of my top favorites but only with limited use case.

I have not used the Cascade for a long while due to fit consistency issues which I can't find a satisfactory solution. I found the Aeon to be my go to headphone for a while now mostly because it's a closed-back. Hence, the reason I looked at the Noire.

The XC will now be my go to headphone.

ZMF Verite Closed
ZMF Atrium

Love this combo - not sure how they measure but, to me, they are my preferred sound signature. They both have different strengths which makes them pair super well together. Really interesting switching between solid state and tube amps with them as well. Love the flexibility :)

I tried to build a little collection that covers different types of headphones over the last one or two years... As of today:

  • ZMF Verité Closed (closed over-ear dynamic)
  • Hifiman Arya (open over-ear planar)
  • Focal Clear (open over-ear dynamic)
  • Sennheiser HD660S (open over-ear dynamic)
  • 64 Audio U12T (multi-BA in ear monitor)
  • Sennheiser IE 300 (single dynamic driver in ear monitor)
The IE300 will have to go soon. I had the chance to test its bigger brother over the weekend (IE 600) I believe the 600 is worth the extra money. The HD660S is collecting dusk because of its better competitors.

If I had to choose just one of these, it would be the Arya; super comfortable to wear and great, detailed sound. I would not buy the Verité again. Its looking gorgeous but its too heavy for me, my ears heat up and the sound does not really give me a kick, although it sounds completely fine (rich&detailed). It was too expensive though. And to be honest: I do not even have an use case that requires a closed over-ear... Hope I learn from this...

Cheers
Markus

Have owned from start to now....

Beyerdynamic 811 - great sound but eventually fell apart
Sennheiser 600 - not as good as 811, but all I could afford
Sennheiser 650 - improvement on 600
AKG 702 pro - better than Sennheisers
Beyerdynamic T1990 Pro - better than all above but not ....>
Beyerdynamic T90

I listened at a specialist headphone vendor with REALLY expensive DACs and definitely preferred to the T1, T3 and several other megabucks vendors to kit.
I am eternally grateful to the accredited Polar Electronics who service / repair Beyer phones as their poor headband design has fallen apart twice now and the second time I asked if they could use the T1990 instead, so I am really going to keep the T90 until the day I (or Polar) dies, LOL !!

Asus Rog Delta
Sennheiser RS 220
Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 2 Anniversary Edition
Sennheiser HD6xx
Sennheiser IE 300
Sennheiser IE 900
Neumann NDH 30
