What headphone(s) do you own ?

Dan Clark ÆON 2 Noire
Grado SR325x

Absolutely love the DC ÆON 2 for work/leisure. The Grado are for rockin' out.
Haven’t listened to a pair of Grado’s in over ten years.

Are yet still bright headphones?

Just measured the K240 monitor (600 ohm) and it is indeed better than the current 55ohm K240.
jtavy may indeed like the sound.
Good for monitoring, bad for mixing, good for people with substantial loss in the treble, a biatch for young folks that prefer elevated bass and sharpness.
I actually had to take a return on an ebay sale because I sold the 240s 55ohm but might have started from a 600ohm sale on ebay, choosing "I have one to sell" not even noticing the difference. They look almost identical. Anyway the buyer hated them and said they are crap but the 600 sound amazing. I will have to be more careful next time, making sure I have identical headphones to what someone is selling. Whatever. The 55 ohm sound like a 1960 portable radio. I don't know how they can possibly be considered serious studio headphones.

For monitoring voices they are fine.
Dirt cheap and fairly sturdy.

For music enjoyment both 55 and 600ohm version are not well suited. You also cannot mix or produce on them.
The fact that some people actually love them is another matter. There are also people adoring the DT48.

Sennheiser HD650's are my favorite headphones for music right now, but other headphones I have around and use occasionally are Beyerdynamic DT770-M's, AKG K271 Mk2's, Sony MDR-7506's, and Qudelix BalPods.

here is my current collection of headphones :-) From left to right:
1. AKG K1000 - a socalled headspeaker - used for listening at home at my stereo-setup. OPEN
2. ADAM Audio H200 - used for both homelistening, listening on the go and for mixing sound at work. Detacheable cable. CLOSED
3. Sennheiser HD 25 - formerly my favorite HP for mixing at work, now mostly used on the go. Replaces as workinghorse by ADAM H200. Detacheable cable. CLOSED
4. Sennheiser HD 414 - a true classic - a bit dark sound signature, but veeeery pleasent to listen to and SO comfortable to wear. OPEN
5. Thomann T.Bone HD515 - a really cheap headphone, but surprisingly well sounding. For studiowork for musicians and podcast hosts to use and not a problem if it breaks. Detacheable cable. CLOSED
6. Shokz OpenRun - a boneconducting HP - used when exercising, walking long walks etc. "OPEN"

Sennheiser HD 800S, Sennheiser HD 820, and Sennheiser IE 900 all using corresponding Oratory1990 eq profiles via a JDS Labs Element IV and Qudelix T71, or in the case of the in-ears, a Qudelix 5k. It feels like I have all my bases covered, and while other headphones interest me, the asking prices don't jive with me and/or I don't want to make compromises in regards to comfort. I will try my darndest to make this the end of the line.

I needed something wireless, I crossed my fingers and dropped a pile of money on the Focal Bathys. They are everything I hoped they would be and also make a great headphone for music and movies at home. Very happy with these.

I really didnt want to go on an audiophile journey looking for the perfect do it all headphone, the Bathys made sure I didnt have to go through that entire rigmarole.

Currently in use

for sitting down and just listening to music
  • Dan Clark E3
  • Sennheiser HD800
  • Stax L500
  • Focal Clear Professional OG
for background listening
  • Fiio FT1
  • Hifiman HE400SE
  • Dan Clark Aeon 2 Noire
waiting to be repaired
  • Sennheiser HE-60
  • Stax SR-404/507 hybrid (404 chassis, 507 driver and earpads)
waiting for a Stax plug to be installed so I can try them with my high-amp Antares electrostatic headphone amp
  • Koss ESP/95x
Quite a few other headphones originally bought to be used, and which I should really sell.

A lot of cheap vintage headphones as decoration. I have over a dozen which I have never actually listened to, and likely never will.

Just curious ...
What headphone(s) do you currently own ?
Which one(s) is(are) used the most, or ....
I have the beyerdynamic dt 770 and the sennheiser hd 650. I am primarily an extreme metal listener with some 80s rock and pop, western classical, Indian classical and synthwave.

The sennheiser is a bit of an all rounder cause it helps discern the midrange on some the high volume level recorded extreme metal albums. Some of these 2000s onwards recordings are terrible. Otherwise the beyerdynamic is much more lively and has better treble but slightly subdued midrange.

The sennheiser hd650 is less harsh on the badly recorded double kick drums and the high frequencies and how it interacts with the mids. I feel it brings out the space in the midrange e.g. bass guitar is audible, allows some space for the vocals to be audible during trigger drums e.g. nile, putridity. Nearly same for the beyerdynamic.

Basically I use a schiit magni unity dac+amp to drive them and mostly listen to mp3s on the headphones as my cd player and streamer is attached to my main system.

I listened to the
They're still bright to very bright.
I got the Grado sr80's about ten years ago, and it sounded thin and too bright, but I didn't have very electronics back then, so I would like to try some again. I recently got the Arya Organics from Hifiman and they're likely my end-gamers, and I do not find them to be too bright at all, and in fact the added treble emphasis seems to be tuned just for me. Perfection all-around, even gaming.

I found my end-game headphones in the Hifiman Arya Organics. I might have been happy with the Arya Stealth, but at less than $1k I pulled the trigger on the Organics and am glad I did.

The FIIO FT1 and FT1pro are also great headphones I wear a lot. Somehow I decided the Drop/Meze 99 Noirs/Classics need EQ'ing, which I don't use. I had the APO installed but it got all fouled up and I need to learn how to use it properly.

My main cans are AKG K-701's 3 pair. I also have 2 pair of Sony MDR 7506's and a new pair of M1's I really like, more refined than the 7506's, but just a touch. I also have a pair of AT 50X's that are a little much in the bass for me, but I am sure that younger folks with great hearing love them. Headphone amps are Schiit: Asgard and 3 Magni's .

When recommending headphones among friends and clients, I tell them:

Tune into the video feed of your favorite radio drive, and look at what the DJs and other radio staff are wearing.

- AKG
- Audio-Technica
- Beyer
- Sony

There's a reason you see those brands in the studio and control room.
Guilty as charged.

- MDR-v150 (had as kid)

- Sennheiser HD 600

- Stax Omega 2 (SR 007) + SRM 727A energizer

- Etymotic 4Rs (I never managed to get used to it)

- Sony MDR CD 550, the MDR CD 3000's little brother (bought 35 years ago, it's still working but the pads turned to dust).

The Sennheiser is the one I use the most. The Stax is certainly better but I have no room anymore for the energizer (sadly, it's in its box).

Altogether, I'm not a big fan of headphone listening. For classical music, I'm more into speakers when they are properly installed: it's more realistic compared to the feeling in a concert hall.
