I kept the HD650 for 10 years before selling it, 10 years when I hated it as much as I loved it but I couldn't stand it anymore in terms of comfort, cushions heated my ears so I couldn't listen to music for more than 10 minutes. Same for the wf-1000 xm5. The only one that allowed me to enjoy it is the HD800S, an ideal comfort for me I wonder if the Arya hifiman could be as comfortable as the HD800S, what do you think?

Ordered the HD800S but received a thrashed packaging so did not use it much before returning the order. However, the FR of the Arya is more to my liking out of the box, it also has good spatial separation. Using the ADI2-DAC's loudness-function I can have it on (my small head) for hours. From now on only open back headphones for me. :)

current lineup:
Hifiman Arya Organic
Sennheiser HD 560S (gaming)
Anker Soundcore VR P10 (VR gaming)
Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 3 ("on the move at home")

out:
Hifiman Sundara
Dan Clark Aeon 2 Noire
Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro
Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro
Beyerdynamic T1.2
Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless

At home I use:

Hifiman HE1000 Unveiled
Meze Empyrean II

At work I use IEMs:

Meze Alba
Kinera Verdandi

Naughty cousins! How old are they? Anyways... I have owned Sennheiser HD545 for 10 years and Sennheiser HD650 for 14? years. I have been wondering should I maybe try some other brand...

Hi all! New to the forum, been on a few others for a while. I have a bunch of headphones, and have cycled through a ton. My keepers are a trio of ZMFs (Atrium, VC and Auteur), Focal Clear OGs, Kennerton Rognirs, and some old AKG late-production Sextetts I modded for removable balanced mini-XLR cables. Also a couple pairs of STAX - L700 Mk2 and Lambda Pros I drive off a Bottlehead Stat.

How do you find the DT1990Pro are compared to the 990Pro 250 Ohm?
I see you kept the 770.. aren't they essentially 990s with a completely instead of semi-sealed back?

I have the HD600 and HD650 - I find the difference between them is the 600 has its treble emphasis about 300-400Hz lower than the 650, and also distorts with bass 1-2dB sooner. I put the same signal to the 600 and 650, then put the 650's left on the 600's right, put them on, and wow they were similar!!

I tried the 660S2 - its bass is way ahead of the 650 and 600s in quantity (it goes MUCH louder without harmonic distortion creeping in, but the way the upper midbass was muddied, it was too far from neutral for me to feel comfortable equalizing it away (equalization isn't perfect and sometimes EQ isn't an option {admittedly, quite rarely}). I don't listen to enough bass heavy music for them.

Headphones I've had:
AKG K270
Shure SRH1440
Sennheiser HD600
Sennheiser HD650

and many other, much less-good ones. I'm not huge into headphones, the K270s I bought back in 2004 and then nothing 'til 2018

Currently the SRH1440s need a new headband, I sold the K270s 10 years ago, and the Sennheisers are driven by:
- Topping A70 Pro
sourced by
- Topping D90 III Sabre
(highly recommend both - the A70 sounds as good as it is powerful)

The Panasonic Shockwave over-head headphones were a very good value for $20 - were pretty clear and very capable of bass output without distortion - I had to connect them to my Pioneer SX-950 and turn the volume up quite high before they complained, they actually boggled my mind - their size and output were just so far ahead of any and everything else. Probably 10dB ahead lol. It was always the device distorting, not the headphones lol.

Anyone else love the Panasonic Shockwave over-head headphones? They also made earbuds that were almost equally ahead of the rest, put the ipod ones to shame years before the first ipod (not that ipod headphones were great, but they were well reviewed)

I kept the 770 for the E piano. The 1990 is the more resolved and have a beter detail & stage.

Only in fit, appearance and comfort (assuming it is not the 32ohm DT770).
They differ a LOT in sound.

Beyerdynamic - DT880 and 770, both 250ohm editions
Grado SR80 (pre-"x")
Roland RH-300
Sennheiser HD-280pro

Over Ear
Audioquest Nighthawk - favorite since I'm one of those oddballs that can listen to these with no EQ since they sound like Ear Speakers to my ears.
Audioquest Nightowl - closed can but like the Nighthawk with some changes to appease the haters but I prefer the OG NH tuning.
Denon ah-d600 - these also get a lot of hate but once I just listened to them for a while, I like them.
AKG Q701 - I enjoy these but the headphone band is a pain amplifier.
Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250 ohm - least favorite since they seem to sound thin to my ears.

IEMs
Penon Fan 2 - overall favorite - smooth and don't require EQ for my ears. Excellent noise isolation.
Final A4000 - comfort, soundstage and technicalities champ but I have to EQ the upper mids/lower treble a few dB to my preference. Excellent noise isolation.
Meze Rai Solo - another comfort champion that got a lot of hate with nonstandard tuning but I like them a lot with some minor EQ massaging for my preferences.
7Hz x Crinacle Zero 2 - budget champion with astonishing sound quality for the $. I love the bass bump and low treble deviance from the default Harmon target.
Kiwi Ears Cadenza - another bang for buck model but with the more neutral tuning, I use these less often unless I EQ to make them sound more like the Zero 2.
Etymotic ER4 - the originals that got me into IEMs and ear lobotomy since these shove deep into the ear canal. Back in the day these were top tier but I don't use them often unless I want supreme noise isolation.

I know none of the above makes.

When recommending headphones among friends and clients, I tell them:

Tune into the video feed of your favorite radio drive, and look at what the DJs and other radio staff are wearing.

- AKG
- Audio-Technica
- Beyer
- Sony

There's a reason you see those brands in the studio and control room.

I'm sure at least half of that list also makes IEM and buds.

I listen to music from my computer and play with my Takstar Pro82. I also have Samsung Type-C headphones (EO-IC100), but I don't like their sound. I ordered the 7Hz x Salnotes Zero to replace them.
Every time I want to replace the Takstar, I get confused about which headphones to choose and postpone the replacement. :D
