BSG for the 2nd time. Maybe I should watch it every decade?

I pick 6s & 8s for Cylons.

I recommend turning the lights off except for only one @ its lowest possible brightness level...almost invisible. It will add couple points to the overall score (the room ambiance we watch films is 50% or so of the total movie experience; the other 50% is our own predisposition...psychic and physical).

Enjoy the show. And after watching it share your own rating score to see if it aligns with mine...for the fun of it, for the similarities and differentiations in how Doctor Sleep effects different people...Bob and Carl.

I will be alone watching this myself in the basement... I don't think I'm going to turn off the lights... the opening soundtrack is scary enough as it is!

Yep, I’ve seen it now. I don’t particularly use any kind of scoring system. Let’s just say it wasn’t half as scary as I thought it would be. It almost felt like they were trying to make this movie kid friendly. Still, enjoyable.

There’s going to be a part two of “A Quiet Place” —liked the audio track of that movie, and saw the short docu about how they produced the sound effects. Hopefully, it completes the story, as well as give me a better fright.

*Oh, I’ve got some ambient incandescent/halogen bulbs turned on and dimmed them throughout the movie. Just a couple days ago we had a complete blackout. I would have screamed if all the electrical equipment shut off in the middle of a scare scene... hmmmn, then again, I’ve got two backup UPSs in the basement — and several motion detecting lights, and 24/7 back-up lights down here. Just in case... so I think I’ll survive.

Sounds excellent Carl (Ernest). Scores are like measurements; a simple guide.
It's the brain @ the end ... we like or we less like. Sometimes we just don't bother.
And true, Doctor Sleep is a kid's movie (teenagers).

And good mention about 'A Quiet Place'; the audio soundtrack is the main character that sets the overall tone, plus the convincing performance of Emily Blunt of course.
That flick too requires turning the lights very very very dim...candles, for best impact.

Part 2 is supposed to hit the theaters September 4; if Corona is safe @ the theater near you ...

By the way I don't scare easily, roughly zero. ...With movies.
It's reality that scares me the most.

Carl, are you a Netflix subscriber?
Because they have some mature movies too, for adults in your age bracket ...

@North_Sky LOL. Reality, huh? I have netflix, amazon prime, & disney... though I don't watch a lot -- it's mostly just music. Simply not enough time sit down glued to one screen -- though, I have watched shows and movies through my screen's PIP (small windowed) mode while keeping busy elsewhere. Multi-tasking, as they say -- sadly, can't remember much of what I watched with this method. I think the only reason to go to the big cinema would be the gourmet popcorn at this one mall. Sure I can make my own gourmet popcorn from "organic" kernels which we have in the pantry, but it takes time! No microwave popcorn in this house.

Carl, I only watch movies occasionally for distraction, some kind of art entertainment for the senses...visual and aural. Some docs for the brain, the education, the knowledge.

Opera music is what turns me on, my mojo. Emotions are my thing.
...And tango...music and dance.

I like what stimulates the senses and the human emotional chords; in all form, shape and space.

I like comedies too, orchestral manoeuvres and Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Mozart.

And some of my favorite films are 'The Kid' (1921), 'The Gold Rush' (1925), 'City Lights' (1931) and 'Modern Times' (1936).

For Documentaries, 'Man on Wire' (2008), 'Mountain' (2017), 'The Dawn Wall' (2017) and 'Free Solo' (2018).

For a world tour with music, 'Baraka' (1992) and 'Samsara' (2011).

I'm an artist, I created forests all my life...I built them with my two hands climbing their sacred grounds with my two legs. We like what we like, we do what we like. I like mountains of music among the trees of the forests. It's the film of my life, real life.

You should check out 'The Invisible Man' (2020) if you like things, people who you cannot see ... to see if you can't (can).

This little film cost $200K to produce. I have watched it three times in the last six months, since discovering it by accident.

I really enjoy it... acting is mostly strong, my measure is whether my belief is suspended.

The story is very thought-provoking.

I watch it on Amazon Prime... it may be available elsewhere.

Possibly the least known film not mentioned in this thread is the first Haitian one ever made in Delray Beach, Florida.

‘Profonds Regrets”

The scenes, beginning at about 1:40:00, feature an Emergency Room physician named Dr. Tillman. That is me! And the location is the office of my Laboratory Services location recast as an ER waiting room.

The film is likely the worst one that will ever be reviewed in this thread... amusing, since I am fairly well known from that scene in the Haitian expat community.

Autographs provided on request! $0.42 each for postage.

A philosophical journey?

I watched Vertigo again - need to see it a few more times...

Classic (1958) with indeed high replay value, along with 'Rear Window' (1954), 'North by Northwest' (1959), 'Psycho' (1960), 'The Birds' (1963) and all other Hitchcock films.

It's a good time to re-explore Alfred's movies.
_____

Last night I didn't watch anything; but recently not very long ago I watched a four episodes documentary on Netflix. Not for the faint of hearts, not for some fighters of social justice, not for everyone.
But here's the biggest tip: Don't get turn off after the 1st episode. Watch all 4 episodes (approximately 3 hours and half total). You can divide it between two evenings; I didn't.

The main reason I mention it it's for a plunge into the justice system.
Totally despicable...there's simply no justice; it's all corrupted, by power, money, reputation, ...all that disease, that sickness, the exploitation, manipulation, protection of the criminals, deficiencies, viruses in the brain.

I recommend watching it because it's the reality of our world.

There is a lot to digest in that doc above; it goes way beyond its surface.
It's food for the brain, for the advancement in social knowledge for the people thirsty of a world of decency and justice.

And the guy didn't hang himself.

If anyone here watch this doc, want to share some, I have more to say, much much more, and we'll take it from there. So many flicks and documentaries (series), not enough time.
But the time taken where it illuminates our views is worth sharing, in my measured opinion. ...

I rewatched Schindler’s List over the weekend. It definitely deserved Best Picture and is one of the best films of the 90s. It is such an impressive piece of cinema in every aspect from the score to the cinematography to the editing (the three hours flies by). And it packs the perfect emotional gut-punch.

Dark, 9/10. What makes it to stand out from similar series, is scenario, casting for caracters in different ages, and music... music is so good. It was planed and deliverd in three season, was not well make one season and then see how it goes with money grab.

Final Space, 8.5/10, imdb rating is realistic. It is build on 80this SciFi, and has good scenario. First season is still better.

Netflix - The Frankenstein Chronicles,
One of the best series based on the original novel I've seen.
It ran for 2 seasons, just started watching it from the beginning again for the 3rd time IIRC. LOL

Another Franky based series on Netflix that came from Showtime IIRC
Penny Dreadful, 3 seasons. Very well done IMO, will keep you up late to watch "just one more episode".
Warning to the squeamish, quite bloody. :p

"Love and Mercy" about Brian Wilson. Real good movie IMO.
OMG, that was a fantastic movie. Banks and Giamatti gave such emotionally powerful performances.
