That's the first time I've heard of it.

Was it good?

I watched both of the newer ones.
I think they are amazing and need to watch them at least 1-2 times a year.

2006 (Cairo, Nest of Spies) and 2009 (Lost in Rio)

* There's an upcoming one next year (2021) ... OSS 117 : Alerte rouge en Afrique noire

Picked up and watched
Hacksaw Ridge
Liked it, certainly worth a view, though you have to deal with the gore and brutality of war. Excellent story well told IMHO. The char that sticks out to me is an unrecognizable Hugo Weaving as Doss's ww1 damaged father.

My copy is still sealed in plastic :). Should watch it some day....

^ I did the same before I watched it. Have watched it four times now.

Just over three years later (3 quotes above from April 15, 2017).
Exactly 1,111 days later.

This documentary (mentioned in the Nuclear Fusion thread) I watched on April 22 (Earth Day), just over a week ago ...

It's not perfect, but what is?
It's good for some aspects in truth, and lesser for other aspects in false details.
It's on renewable energies, like solar power, wind turbines, ... and the packages that come with them ... good and bad. Some people are so opposed to it that they tried to get it removed from the air ... it's available for free on the free public YouTube channel.

Nobody is being decapitated or shot @, there aren't any swearing either, just some cool trees in the desert (500 years old) being wiped out. I love trees so that was sad.
And @ the end of the documentary it is heartbreaking. I won't tell, but any normal person would be emotionally effected. I sure was.

I like the doc because it exposed some realities and it's good to know the truths.
Some other aspects some people like to complain about they can complain it's their free choice. If they want to impose their own agenda they'd better listen to others too, because the more they object the deeper they get in a black hole full of black empty air.
That's my opinion. It's open for all visions, not for impositions.
This doc by the way was made before the pandemic and all, so it had none to do with it.

Renewable energies and the freedom to live and let live. They sure screwed up big time @ the end with no more habitat for the chimps.

Planet of the Humans, and all living animals and trees ...

My own personal rating score...overall: 77 (in/from my brain)

Last word: See It

Last night I don't know why exactly but I suspect it was for dialog driven film that I revisited this flick ... Films work in mysterious ways during a pandemic ...

It's very slow going, and the dialog is part of that.
Plus there are some long scenes development with details that are banal but with a certain flair of realism. I'm talking the quiter scenes here, dialog driven.

There are some action scenes for sure but nothing like in "Extraction" or "The Avengers" or "Batman vs Superman". They develop slowly, efficiently and always some dialog intertwined.

It's not a film for everyone. Not everyone is in love with Mel, and not everyone is in love with guns. Plus there are heartbreaking scenes, one in particular...in the bank.

It's the story of two detectives who got suspended and returned as incognito because the older one needs to turn his life more financially meaningful, and in the process influenced and destroyed the life of his 20-year younger partner by inviting him in his own style to his personal quest. Plus there is another character development between two other guys, completely different but similar too @ the same time from the two cops. These two other guys are outlaws. So we basically get two pairs of different guys but in the end all outlaws. ...Plus everyone else they get involved with...no picnic people here.

Technically the Audio is in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 channels (lossless high resolution audio sound) and the image is in 1080p high definition with an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 (widescope). Many scenes happened @ night with faint tones of brown and darker gold.
The daytime scenes are clear with a bluish style accent. I watched a Blu-ray disc.
The film is about 2 hours and 40 minutes long. The music score is sparkled with retro style tunes, fitting the film's slow going style...relaxed. ...Nothing highly catchy just relaxed.

Overall: 68

Proceed with extreme care here; it's not a family flick.
And it's not Star Wars. If words could kill Mel would be good @ it ...

Stay safe

I saw this about a month ago. I think your description if pretty accurate. I think I probably liked it more than you did. I'd give a score around 75. Better than many other movies I've seen, and for some reason was over-looked last year when it was released.

Another maybe not for everyone choice. I thought it was quite good, though a few disturbing details could have been left out without effecting the series. "The Night Of" which is an 8 part HBO series. Won 5 Emmy's, and I thought it should have had a couple more. Fellows who made "Schindler's List" and "the Wire" were who created it. Murder mystery of sorts though quite unlike others in the genre.

https://www.hbo.com/the-night-of

Reviewers gave it 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Audience gave it 93% ratings.

Music, audio gear, movies, TV size & brand & technology, theaters, software, documentaries, medium, series (TV), mono, stereo, multichannel, animations, actions, romances, comedies, operas, dramas, wars, peaces, westerns, sci-fi, ... our taste cover the full gamut of diversity and versatility.

'The Night Of' ... I'd give it a shot, short of a flu shot (vaccine) during this pandemic crisis.

Last stuff I watched was an animated short ...

...And a deep meaning illustrated short ...

I revisited this flick last night but this time around the Director's Cut (half hour longer).

This 3-hour cut (DR) is on the Blu-ray (1080p) disc only, not in HDR/UHD.

I slightly prefer it to the Theatrical version...about 10%
It adds to some characters in a positive way.

Picture quality is very good and so is the Audio quality...zero complaint.

Overall: 72

Some parts are Mickey Mouse, other parts are good. If it would have been consistently good that would have been a better flick. Give it a shot if you like to see how the soul vampires suck it out from normal folks to gain more pow-wow.

It's like The Shining part deux in parts, but the supernatural side, outside the physical world. And yes there is an axe @ the end ... but no Jack.

Last flick I've watched ...

e0aabbc815384c8a4000729f179011f570a24aa5.gifv

'The Invisible Man', on 4K Blu.
- 4K Pic VIDEO quality: 8.5
- Atmos AUDIO Sound quality: 9.3
- Overall Film value: 7.4

Elisabeth Moss is following the main lead...the audio soundtrack.
Together they make for a fun time @ the movies.

If you haven't seen it, do. It'll make you forget all about the virus and everything related.
...Almost. There's some blood; so have consideration for the sensitive type, including you.

It's a cool flick; you're going to enjoy it, plus if you're an audiophile it'll serve you well by enveloping your world efficiently.

For a trailer just Google it. But even better just forget the trailer and watch the movie without zero expectation and idea. It's best that way.

Now you've reminded me that I've been wanting to see this for a while! Three hours is a bit too long... I'll start with the theatrical version if I can find it then.

In that case for the theatrical version you can deduct roughly 5-10%
...Between 62 and 67 ...make that 65 overall. ...For the soul eaters.

I will be alone watching this myself in the basement... I don't think I'm going to turn off the lights... the opening soundtrack is scary enough as it is!
