What happend to the FAQ?

It was a simple point really. Is ASR a place that aims to spread truth (based on science) and help educate those less informed to help them make better decisions and avoid bad ones?

An FAQ seems a good idea to help promote that. If I’m trying to help educate folks, making them take a test before I’ll talk to them seems counter to the cause.
Thanks for clarifying. I honestly had no idea where you were going with the initial question.

Sure! Sorry for the confusion. The danger of the written word, especially when someone (me) isn’t particularly good at clear and concise. I can do one or the other, but never both - lol.

The written word is fraught, as seen daily here at ASR. I do think a test for first time posters is useful. Not asking they pass a test on advanced acoustics. Rather asking the new member to acknowledge what the forum's mission and general findings, and also be provided with some information on the forum's intent.

looks like a good start Amir! (I probably would have made the mission #1.)

I like the idea of an easy access tab, and you might think about a quick-link to your YouTube Channel.

Not that there is a problem but how about something about forum rules? There seem to be some rules... Did I agree to some rules when I signed-up?

Thinking through this, the FAQ page 1 is why and how about ASR. But going forward the thing that would promote brevity and understanding would continue with more like this (my thoughts not a manifesto or complete). Each would be a brief summary that ends in definition or conclusion. This would be a huge undertaking but but maybe with Chatbots doing much of the work.

FAQ: yes, of course
Testing for new members: the forum will do the job (as well as on the past), so unnecessary.

First draft to get us started: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/audio-science-review-faq-1.65328/

Longer term I will probably create a Tab on the main forum navigation bar. But for now, it is a forum. I will add more chapters to it as time permits.

I like it. Sets out your position, the boards main objectives, and it's clear and transparent.

I do have one question that I've always wanted to ask on here, but can't find where to ask it. This seems like a good place, especially in light of 17. Is listening important.

I've often wondered if those voting on your reviews in that panther thingy have used the product in question themselves? If they haven't, then aren't they just agreeing with your measurement results?, which naturally ordinarily speak for themselves anyway.

It's just a puzzle to me how anyone can vote on a product without having tried it for themselves, although I understand how measurements can tell us everything we need to know, so to speak.
I know you've pretty much answered the question already in #17, lol, but I still find those polls odd, unless everyone voting has in fact got first hand experience with the product in question.

Vast majority have not had any experience with the device.

They are not "agreeing" with my results. The measurements are what they are. They need to be interpreted. I do that based on my insights and experience. Others do the same based on theirs. Most of the time the alignment is good, but sometimes not.

Members can also include other priorities such as looks, functionality, price, etc which tend to get lower priority from me.

The poll would have few results if I just limited it to who has access to the device.

The original motivation for the poll was people not agreeing with my conclusions. They would campaign for them to change based on what they think is important which often is not the same as me as a reviewer. So I created the poll for them to express their ultimate vote. Everyone is seeing the same data, albeit lacking the qualitative feeling of the device controls and such.

That is what a review is for, right? You are seeking knowledge to determine if you should or should not buy the device. If you already have it, then the question is moot. So makes little sense to limit the poll to people who own the device. And if "try" means they have listened to it here and there, then that is not reliable information or we would not exist.

The polls are quite powerful in the way they show the consensus of the membership with respect to what the data shows. Otherwise you would only have my opinion.

BTW, the people who own the device frequently post their impression as a post. So if that is all that interests you, then seek them out.

Thank you Amir, that answers a lot of my questions around the polls. Makes sense to me when you put it like that.

Closing as we now have populated FAQs and a specific subforum for them.
